They don't care because they don't want to admit they were wrong for laughing at them, demeaning them, etc. Their guilt gets the better of them and thus simply turning a blind eye is more appealing than facing what they done in the past.

This world belongs to evil.

The good of this world is, in my opinion, a force that extends into this world from somewhere else. You can say that is god and that is fine with me. I don't know really. But light cannot shine either if darkness wasn't there first.
