Looking forward to it!

When it comes to the leading organisations of football, I forget the scores quickly, but I remember the events and goals of the matches for a long time.

For example; I remember Hagi's goal in the 1994 World Cup match between Colombia and Romania in which he almost caught the Colombian goalkeeper Cordoba near the touchline as clearly as if the match was played yesterday. For the rest of the match, when the ball came to Hagi's feet, the goalkeeper Cordoba did not leave the goal line and we were laughing.

I remember his sadness when Roberto Baggio missed the penalty kick in the World Cup final in the same year.

When we go back to the past or the recent past, I remember hundreds of similar images in which happiness and sadness are in the same frame.

Everyone who is interested in football knows Pele. Even if he is not in his own age group, he knows. His journey from shining shoes to becoming one of the best footballers in the world is quite fantastic. The fact that he played football at a time when broadcasting and national leagues did not reach sufficient masses was a great loss both for him and for everyone who loves football. The Uncrowned King is still remembered.

I don't know how many people will remember this goal, but I do. Let me give you a simple hint, this goal was not scored in UEFA or FIFA organisations. Nor was it scored in a league or cup match where Pele played football. It was not a special match or tournament!

This goal was scored in the 1981 film Escape to Victory, which starred World Cup winning footballers such as Pele, Bobby Moore and Osvaldo Ardiles.

I call it talking football with someone outside football... And wherever they are, footballers must speak with their feet. Their voice and language is their fans.

We are counting the days towards a new World Cup. For the first time we will watch football World Cup matches in winter, and in one of the most problematic regions; the Middle East!

Goals will be scored again, happiness and sadness will be seen in the same frames. Whether our national teams are in the tournament or not; we will be a party again!

We will applaud or criticise the fierce struggles. Some will win, some will lose. There will be those who make it to the next round, there will be those who are eliminated! And the captain of a country's team will lift the World Cup in the air! He will take his place in unforgettable moments.

Everyone will have a favourite, there will be those who consider scoring a goal or getting out of the group a success. There will be those who consider being eliminated in the quarter/semi-final as a failure. Some will pay the price, some will get up from their seats, some will increase their credibility!

And there will be a winner, who will be applauded by everyone if he/she deserved it, but no matter what, his/her name will never be erased after he/she takes his/her place in history as a winner, controversial or not.

I am looking forward to it!
