The wisdom of our ancestors

in food •  7 months ago

When we look back at our ancestors’ eating habits, we will see that they were so much healthier than our habits now. Everything they did had a science behind it. These days social media is full of self-proclaimed nutritionist and doctors and almost everyone has an advice of what to eat and what not to eat. Yes, I too give some advice at times on diets and foods, and I only share the best practices that have worked well for me. Which is then on the opposite person whether to take it or not. Likewise, I am sure others also may be doing the same thing.

For me what is most important is to listen to my body, how I feel when I eat something. Do I feel heavy and bloated or do I feel energetic and light in my body. When I get an ill feeling about any food that I have consumed, I make it a point to not eat that again or eat in moderation once a while. Time and again I too indulge in unhealthy foods, which I will not deny but then there are some foods which are a total no for me like the canned and packed foods.

For my healthy food practices, I always ask myself first, what are the side effects of this food. Are there or no, does it give me any type of nutrition or am I eating it just for pleasure? One may think it is too much to keep thinking all the time, but then I believe is that if we do not honor our body and give it the right thing then it will also reject us. So many new foods have been introduced in the last 2 to 3 decades and most of it is unhealthy junk food, which gives a direct view on why the overall health graph across the world has gone down. Along with food there is lifestyle also that plays a big role, but food is the basic.

Our Indian kitchens are still healthy compared to the west. We believe in eating freshly cooked foods and not indulge much on packed foods. Though nowadays these trends are also changing and the new generation likes to eat outside food more than home cooked meals.

At the end of the day, our body is our property and how we want to manage this property is entirely in our hands.
