Tapioc [Tapioca Wraps]

HEALTHY GLUTEN-FREE BRAZILIAN STREET FOOD

IMG_8067.jpeg

The bit I left out of my post yesterday was that when I was in Camden, I actually stopped for a quick lunch at a very interesting shop called "Tapioc". They are located on 155 Camden High Street, NW1 7JY, London.

The make wraps purely out of Tapioca (cassava) flour and water. The wraps are then filled with either a sweet or savoury recipe of goodies. I went for savoury on the day, since it was lunch time, but I can see how someone could have savoury for main and sweet for desert.

The cassava taste and texture is one that I'm already accustomed to, having grown up on west African food, but I can imagine it's an acquired taste and others may not like it. Tapioc's tapioca wraps are based on Brazilian street food, which I'm also quite familiar with.

What's also interesting about Tapioc is the fact that their entire menu is gluten-free! This means there's no risk of cross-contamination from other meals and coeliac sufferers can eat everything on their menu. I'm not a coeliac sufferer myself, but I have family members who are, so I know how sever gluten exposure can be. Many of these exposures are unwitting, occurring in apparently "gluten-free" meals at restaurants due to cross-contamination.

I absolutely loved the vibe of the restaurant. It's indoors with no windows, apart from the ones on the roof letting natural light in, but I've never seen an indoor area with such beautiful light before. Maybe it's the combination of the pink walls and orange lights, coming from all directions. It would be a great place to photograph people.

ahhh I like that, here we eat something similar to that, it's also cassava, but it's not stuffed, we call it casabe... and on top of that you put whatever you want to accompany it to eat, these that you show, they look like Venezuelan arepas, which go stuffed. I like that concept.
