Over the years — my original account dates to Steemit in January of 2017 — I've have mentioned the value of creating content on various crypto social sites to many people, most of them fellow bloggers from "way back when."
Those Empty Facebook Wallets!
In spite of the predominantly skeptical and negative reactions, I typically manage to get a chuckle or two from using the line "So how much is in YOUR Facebook wallet?"
The interesting dichotomy I often run into is the fact that many people are well aware that they get absolutely nothing for their many hours spent on social media, and even aware that Facebook et al. are using them to gain profit. However, they often shrug of my enthusiasm about crypto-social content creation with words like "Sure, but it's not really WORTH is, is it?"
Worth it?
That sort of feedback used to make me somewhat annoyed, until I realized that the vast majority of the population view "sources of money" as being something relatively singular, also known as "Your Job."
Everything DOES Count, in the End!
The problem?
It's a comparison thing. If I mention something like Blurt — where you might gain 5-10 USD a month from casual blogging — it is "not worth it" compared to a monthly paycheck of maybe 2,000 USD. Right?
As a self-employed person, my "sources of money" are probably close to 20. Relatively speaking "a few dollars a month" is definitely worthwhile because it fits under the greater heading of "Every Little Bit Counts," because every little bit does count.
Of course, the irony in all this is that if I were to simply say "I'll give you 10 USD a month" they'd be perfectly happy to stand there, with their hand out, ready to receive!
So there's a strange duality. Time spent on Facebook (for nothing) fits under the heading of "entertainment" while time spent on a crypto social site suddenly gets shifted to the headspace category of "work," because there's a reward involved.
Even though the two are basically the same thing.
Curious, isn't it?
How about YOU? Do you run into objections when telling others about Blurt or other crypto social sites? What are they? How do you respond? DO leave me a comment — engagement matters! I have encountered similar reactions multiple times, including the common response of "It's too complicated for me," especially when it comes to the concept of multiple keys (Posting, Active...). I've also had experience with a few people who I knew would be successful if they tried it, but unfortunately the simple fear of change, of stepping out of their comfort zone, prevented them from doing so.
It's disheartening to witness individuals missing out on the potential benefits of social blockchain due to these barriers. However, I firmly believe that perseverance and having an unwavering mentality are crucial factors in overcoming such challenges. History has shown us that successful social networks have emerged when people embraced change and ventured into new territories.
While it's understandable that some may perceive the transition as daunting, it's important to remember that with time and effort, the perceived complexities can be overcome. Education and support within the crypto community can play a significant role in empowering individuals and making the process more accessible.
Yes, a large part of building this whole genre/industry lies in simply showing up every day and participating... so when someone insists it's "just a passing fad," you can look them in the eye and reply "Well, it's a passing fad I've been working with for seven years!
The "it's too complicated" argument is definitely one I run into and there is little to do to "de-complicate" that because it's simply the nature of the beast... best thing we can offer is "keychain" type helper apps where you just have to put in your OWN self generated password once, and the app stores and chooses the appropriate key as you navigate the system.
