Premonitory delusions

Emily woke up overwhelmed and sat up in bed. Sweat was running hastily through every pore of her body, her straight brown hair lay on her face trying to hide her rapid breathing and dilated pupils.

She breathed again, inhaled deeply, and then released the air with the firm idea of regaining calm with every particle of oxygen that penetrated her nostrils. After a few minutes, the sobriety of reality came to her mind, she slowly stood up with the heaviness of the afternoon sun on his back.

She looked at herself in the mirror, as tall as her height, and began to comb her hair sliding the pink brush up and down, it was an act that gave her calm and tranquility, almost a hormonal pleasure. As she ran the brush through her long hair, an image of a fire appeared in the mirror, a few microseconds were enough to make Emily drop the brush as she watched with her honey-colored eyes the terrible scene.

"Emily, come downstairs and eat!". A voice from the first floor brought Emily back to her senses.

"Hey, I'm coming, Mother," the girl replied, still dazed, then rubbed her eyes profusely to regain her equilibrium of lucidity.

Hurrying downstairs to meet at the family gathering place, Emily painted a smile on her mother's candid face. "At last miss, just barely and she spends all day in bed."

"Sorry Mom, it just so happens that I couldn't sleep very well last night, I had frequent nightmares." A gesture of chagrin showed across the girl's delicate features.

Immediately Emiliy's mother put her hand to her forehead. "Some fever I notice, I'd better fix you something to drink, dear."

She would turn away and go to the refrigerator to get some lemons, cut them up, and drain them in some cold water. "Here you go honey, then go back to bed, you need your rest." A crystal glass would bring the girl closer to him with the prepared drink. "In the meantime, you rest, your father and I are going downtown to pick up the washing machine motor that was out of order."

"Nooo!" Emily's heart was pounding, and it felt like it was going to burst out of her chest.

"What's wrong, honey?"

"It's just that it's about the nightmares, I dreamed that you and Dad had an accident, and the car burst into flames." Emily let out desperate little sobs into the hot afternoon air.

"Honey, it was just a nasty nightmare, and it came from the fever." Her mother hugged her to calm the anxiety that was welling up minute by minute. "You need to get some sleep to regain your strength and good health."

"But Mom, it was so real that I got goosebumps and a terrible fear began to rise from my stomach to my throat." Her sobs were gaining strength as the time to leave approached.

"Daughter, Daughter, calm down, nothing is going to happen to us, they were just nightmares. Relax and go to your room. The mother's authoritative voice boomed in Emily's eardrums.

At that moment the father came downstairs, very calm and whistling an old rock song. He would pause before the two women, and expectantly ask, "What's wrong with my two loves?"

At that moment, the mother was telling the father about Emily's bad time, he hugged her and carried her into the bedroom. "Dad, please don't leave the house today, for the love of God."

"My love, don't worry, nothing will happen to us. I promise I'll drive carefully." The father hugged his beautiful daughter tightly to cement his promise.

Emily let herself be lulled to sleep and fell into a deep sleep... Terrifying screams could be heard coming from the burning car, then everything became cloudy, at that instant she woke up again screaming and begging her parents not to go, her heart was pounding uncontrollably and she rushed down to the kitchen.

She saw no one and started screaming over and over again as echoes floated through the house. She ran to see the car and with her heart in her hand she was begging for it to be there, but the car was gone. Emily seemed to freak out in that silent house, her nerves were on edge and that horrible feeling in her stomach was like constant daggers piercing the calm lost in the nightmare. She didn't want to think anymore, she needed to keep her restless mind distracted.

He sat down on the brown leather sofa, picked up the remote control, and turned on the television. The five o'clock movie was about to end, and at that instant a breaking news. The cameras showed a car on fire and the anchorman narrated the facts with an imposing coldness, the man was talking about two lifeless bodies, on Rose Avenue.

Emily remembered that avenue appearing in her nightmares. Tears flowed hastily down the smooth and lush cheeks, the cries accompanied the saline solution in exclamations of complaint to the whitish ceiling, a cushion served as comfort for the great pain that the girl felt.

After a few minutes of heart-rending sobs and wails, Emily went back to sleep, and between dreams, she felt her mother's caresses and her father's sweet voice calling her in the distance. She opened her eyes and looked at her parents. The girl had never been so happy in her life as in that moment, she got up and hugged them with all her strength. "Dad, Mom, you don't know how happy I am, I thought something had happened to you, I watched the news and..."

Emily was interrupted by her father. "We decided to go visit your grandmother and leave the engine thing for tomorrow and we were stunned to see the horrible accident, we decided to go back and check on you."

"I thought it was you, this hunch was killing me with anguish." Emily let out a few sobs to the loving faces of her parents.

"Fortunately it wasn't like that, your father decided in time not to go to the center, as long as you were better from your fever or maybe it would have been us, this scared me to death." The mother hugged Emily, "Now, missy, take care of that 'premonitory fever', hehe... Go get some rest, honey."
