Senior Operative and Team Leader, Codenamed "Dorsett Naga", Scoville Heat, Inc, switched her comms to "Secure, Op Team Only" mode and spoke into the wraparound flex mic of her helmet, "T-minus 30 seconds, ladies. I say again, 'Pop goes the Weasel' in 30 sec. Acknowledge".
In less than half a minute, Dorsett and the other two operatives from Scoville Heat, Inc. would soon execute, exfil/evade and be extraction ready; meaning, be in the right place, at the right time, for a quick pick-up and helo ride to safe territory.
This bland, benign and intentionally understated description of what "should happen" next makes it all sound like some rather routine, easy-peasy stuff.
But the reality couldn't be further from the truth.
"Execution" marks the point in every mission when things go from being excruciatingly too slow to dangerously too fast.
Unlike what's portrayed in the movies, real life missions aren't glamorous, complex and always involve the use of high-tech super-gadgets.
It's really quite simple: If you want to live, as soon as the fireworks go off, make a mad dash to a safe place and survive long enough to catch a ride home.
[Back to the present.]
"Ghost. Acknowledge."
"Reaper. Acknowledge."
Twenty seconds later, Dorsett Naga keyed her mic again, "Be advised. Fire in the hole, I say again, fire in the hole in 3, 2, 1!".
She tapped the blinking dot on the 2" x 4" screen strapped to her forearm and a second later the pile of C-7 exploded.
The plume of snow, dirt and debris looked like a black and white version of an erupting volcano.
The team wasted no time admiring their work; immediately heading towards the extraction site like three bats out of Hell...
