This is a big festival for me and my family and days of preparation goes into it. This last whole week I have been busy preparing for the festival. It is a 10 days festival starting from tomorrow and during this time we bring Lord Ganesha home and then keep him for 2, 3, 5, 7 days as per our wish. Not everyone does this, but quite a few people in India do it. We have been bringing Lord Ganesha home since almost 7 years now, prior to that I used to travel to my sister's place for the ritual as she too has been doing it since past many years.
The preparations that are to be done for this is first of all cleansing the whole home, a deep cleaning is what I do, every nook and corner and every drawer and cabinet of the home is cleaned. This also gives me a chance to get rid of unwanted clutter and things that are no more in use. It takes me ideally 3 to 4 days to do this cleaning. Then is the cleaning of all my crystals, which gets done over a period of 3 days' time and once all the cleansing is done, then starts the arrangement part. Setting up the table for Lord Ganesha, where he would be placed. For me I have 2 tables, one for Ganesha and the other one an Angel table, as I do those rituals also during this time. They assist me a lot in my healing work and dowsing work and this is my way of expressing gratitude to them.
Today morning I have finished setting up the table and now tomorrow morning the priest will come and then with the rituals we will place Lord Ganesha on his seat and then on Wednesday evening we will do the immersion ceremony.
The decoration is almost ready, a little touch up is required which I will complete tonight. It's not very fancy also but I am feeling happy with the final outcome.
The next 2 days my home will be open for all the visitors who would like to come and seek Lord Ganesha's blessings. Today I have to also start preparing for making sweets and savories to serve to visitors who will come over for the next 2 days. Evening I will also do the Rangoli and other flower arrangements. A lot of things to do, while it is exhausting at the same time it is also very fulfilling.
