Despite the fact that we like to think of ourselves as rational beings, as human beings we are more motivated by feelings and emotions than by ideas. Our emotions therefore control the majority of our lives.
Because of this, we experience immense, exuberant feelings of being on top of the world when things are going well. If things are not going well, the exact opposite occurs. We experience melancholy, irritability, and in more severe situations, depression.
Moreover, things might change suddenly in life because it is so dynamic. You can find yourself in the bottom of the ocean the day after standing at the peak of the mountain the day before. Additionally, this applies to the other case.
While we don't need much help when things are going well, we typically search for and badly need some kind of support system during difficult times. We most need our loved ones to be there during that time.
Everything Will Work Out OK.
This one line has the power to occasionally rescue us from the pit of despair that those difficult times can plunge us into. When a loved one says these things, it's like a hand saving you from drowning.
The issue stems from our inclination to mentally exaggerate things. When something positive occurs, we may feel happier than is necessary, and when something negative occurs, we may feel far worse than is necessary. That's a result of us allowing our feelings to rule us.
Once you get on that emotional roller coaster, you won't stop unless someone outside of you stops you in your tracks and helps you realize what you're doing to yourself.
A loved one, such as a parent, spouse, brother, or friend, is typically that "outside force." We get comfort in the knowledge that there are those who support us and that their comments hold even more weight since we put our trust in them.
