If your ability to be kind is limited to those in your immediate family and neighborhood, you cannot possibly claim to have a good heart. It might surprise you to learn that many individuals only provide kindness to those from whom they expect something in return. These are what are known as transactional acts of kindness, and the people who are closest to them and most in need are left out. In actuality, your internal well-being should come before anything positive you do for the exterior. A person isn't even good if they can't even be kind to those in their own social group. Be kind and good to others from the bottom of your heart.

If the people in your neighborhood do not notice your absence when you go on, then your presence was ineffective. It actually indicates that you weren't required to be there. Even though you might not have everything, you can still make a difference in the world with what you do have. It's true that someone who is unable to assist you at their current level or to offer you something from what little they have may find it difficult to do so in the future when they are wealthy. Believe me, having money does not change a person's nature; rather, it just brings out the best in them. Someone with a decent heart will be obvious to you based on their actions.

If an individual exhibits kindness toward some people—such as their superiors or supervisors at work—but not toward their neighbors, family, gatekeeper, gardener, or other acquaintances, then that individual lacks all goodness. There should be universal goodness—it shouldn't be limited to some. You must cultivate and adopt an altruistic heart as your way of life. In other words, live aware that doing good denotes an improvement in yourself as a human. As long as your good deeds are motivated by the correct motives, you cannot go wrong. Furthermore, the nice deeds you perform for someone today might benefit you later on.

By being kind, you have planted a good seed for the future that will help you and the person you are being kind to as well. Therefore, you should consider every chance to be kind to others—especially those in your immediate social circle—as a seed you plant for the future. You have to help others rise to the occasion if you want to be considered blessed in your neighborhood. Remind yourself that you are fortunate so that you can benefit others. Your personal deeds of kindness should undoubtedly be the starting point for the goodness you wish to see in the world.
