How I loath Wikipedia! 🤬 Did they actually say that the government teaches it in schools without textbooks? If so, that's completely inaccurate! Take it from we insiders, speaking Sicilian is highly discouraged in Sicily's schools, AND at home for the younger generations. It has been targeted for extinction, much like the British did with the Irish language.

From what I learned from a Google whistleblower, who's name escapes me at the moment, Google runs an AI algorithm known as Machine Learning Fairness which uses Wikipedia as it's source for determining what it true or false. Machine Learning Fairness or Machine Learning To-Be-Stupid? 🤔
The language is still very much alive, but it is strongly treated as an inferior language, and even if there are preservation societies who will archive Sicilian literature, the language among the youth, who are constantly online writing and reading in Italian, is being used less and less, and adults scold their kids when they express themselves in Sicilian. That was what I saw in my last visit, about 11 years ago.
