What you need to know
Simply put, sperm leakage is when sperm gouges out of a woman after sex.
Generally, sperm leakage is a normal phenomenon in more than 80% of women, and semen leaking out from you after intercourse doesn't necessarily decrease your chances of conceiving, as men release between 40 million and 1.2 billion sperm cells in a single ejaculation, and you only need a single sperm to fertilise your egg. The fattest sperm carries the trophy!
However, in about 20% of women, there could be cause for alarm when you experience a leakage of sperm as it could be as a result of any or combination of the following:
🍀Retroverted Womb: Women who have a tilted/retroverted womb may suffer from sperm leakages because the normal uterus is in an anteverted position which is more favorable for normal sperm movement into the womb as against a retroverted womb that obstructs sperm movement from moving into the womb. This obstruction can increase the likelihood of experience sperm pour or sperm leakage. Note that not all women with retroverted womb experience this.
🍀Bacterial Infection: If a woman has had a history or has infection or pelvic inflammatory disease, her body is likely to develop antibodies to fight the infection or disease and simultaneously harm the sperm in the process, thereby causing sperm leakage.
🍀Poor Sperm motility: Sperm motility is the ability of the sperm to move efficiently. This is necessary because the sperm needs to travel through the female reproductive tract to reach the point of fertilization. If the man has been diagnosed with poor sperm motility (lower than 50% active progression), then it explains why the sperm can’t move efficiently through the female reproductive tract, which can contribute to leakage.
Conclusively, If you or your husband don't battle with any of the aforementioned issues, then the sperm leakage you experience is normal, but if you struggle with any underlying health/fertility issue, it's important you treat them accordingly in order to prevent the sperm leakage which can make conception harder.
I hope this helps someone!
