Dear readers, to talk about sustainable development it is necessary to clarify its definition and to clarify what objectives it pursues. The United Nations Assembly described it as "development that meets the needs of present generations without compromising the capacity of future generations", while FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations), based on the same vision, points out that in order to achieve such development, the conservation of natural resources must be taken into account.

It can be said that sustainable development comes at a historic moment when society and politicians realize that the prevailing economic model is causing serious environmental problems, since it is characterized by technological development that, when poorly managed, endangers the balance of ecosystems, this leads to the consideration of development models that take into account the economic, environmental and social dimensions as a whole.
This situation is reflected in agricultural production systems, since agricultural enterprises focus all their efforts on increasing food production, using technology packages based on the indiscriminate use of synthetic inputs known worldwide as pesticides, developing only economic growth without taking into account the environmental and social dimension.
In order to establish an agricultural system with a sustainable approach, it is necessary that the systems guarantee suitable socio-economic conditions for the family group, obtain good quality animal products and ensure environmentally friendly operation, using a multidimensional approach including technical, economic, ecological and social criteria.
To modify these ecosystems and make them technically sustainable, the manager as guarantor of the system must consider elements such as climate, soil, production, costs and revenues by adopting an appropriate use of records and thus evaluate the productive efficiency of the system.
On the other hand, to be environmentally sustainable, the natural processes of ecosystems must be optimized, such as: Availability and balance of nutrient flow, which depends on the continuous supply of organic matter and practices that increase soil biological activity; Preservation and conservation of biodiversity, which can be achieved with the diversification of species composition; use of varieties adapted to local soil and climate conditions that respond to low management in external inputs.
Also from an economic - financial and social point of view, ecosystems should not depend solely on external resources such as the use of pesticides, since this can mean high costs to the producer, mainly because producers cannot control changes in prices, in addition from the social perspective the dependence on external inputs and resources is also taken into account, since the continuity of production should not be put at risk for the welfare of the family and people involved, in addition to the stability and training of the human resource in the sound management of agrochemicals for the well-being of the ecosystem and occupational safety.
Dear readers, we hope that the objective of sustainable development has been made clear and how it can be achieved gradually in the agricultural systems, From agrotechnics we are receptive to receive your opinions on the topics covered, Do not hesitate to leave your comment, it is of great value to us.
