...We Hellenes say the phrase "the useless tip of the day " when we try to describe something that is useful in some way to know but is irrelevant in the current situation which makes it kinda useless....

Everybody is aware of that our beloved planet Earth has two Poles , North and South Pole
the northern Polar region is called Arctic
the southern Polar region is called Antarctic
BUT DID YOU KNOW
that
the two Polar regions got their name by the Greek word ' ΑΡΚΤΟΣ ' , ARKTOS means Bear
so Arctic is the region , the land of Bears and it is a fact that we have Polar Bears in this area
on the contrary Antarctic which comes from Anti-Arctic which means No-arctic, No-Bears is a region where we do NOT see any bears 'inhabitants' at all
i was pretty excited to find out where these terms came from , and even more excited that they have Hellenic roots!
no matter what, i hope now, you also know why we call the North Pole , Arctic and the South Pole, Antarctic!
