OP Live Action Review of 3-5 episodes / Recenzja 3 odcinków OP

Today I will cover the 3rd, 4th and 5th episode. It was also supposed to be 6, but Asia and I had 1 shift today and we had to go to sleep xD. Oh boy, I was saying the OP gets better with each episode, but this is going too fast, I'm already starting to enjoy this show more than I expected in the most optimistic of assumptions! Besides, on Thursday I was invited to a podcast about OP (the main theme of the episode is to be criticism of the series, a good chuckle of fate that such a whiner will defend a title he has not liked for years XDD), and probably on Saturday or next week, we will record with Karol our overview. That's why there will be no review, at most I will post some text in a year, when the emotions will subside.

80% of the reviews I read were very critical of Captain Kuro, and up until Baratie, this was my favorite... um, let's say a "mini-story-arc" in the show. At the beginning of the episode it was a bit more wooden than in the earlier ones, but it gets better with each scene and I can say the same about the later episodes. You can see that finally the creators of the adaptation read this comic (or know it, just like us), understood why fans around the world loved it, and then sat down and calmly planned what they were throwing away, what they left, what they changed. I often emphasize how important this is in planning and in my opinion, The Witcher, Marvel, Star Wars, Dragon Ball Super fail at this stage even though they are simple franchises to plan (in the sense that you don't have to meet as many conditions as in the case of adaptations of e.g. "One Piece", "The Silmarillion" or other works of this type that are too complex, too well thought out and too demanding in reception - i.e. I still think that they can be adapted, but you need to REALLY think about it, and in In the case of DB, Marvel, The Witcher, all I have to do is go with my friends to the "war-room", drink a few bottles of vodka, burn a few jojnts and after a maximum of a month of sitting in such a room, we have a ready plan for the entire comic / main content development for the next 5 years 10 years) while the creators of OP laugh like Garp or Luffy and say "Hold my beer".

You just have to be a mean person to look for some really big flaws in this show. Me and Karol are unable to find a big flaw here. In the sense that I can grab the creators by the hand and say: Oh, LOOK! YOU BREAK IT! The only complaint I have with them is that they could have given a bigger budget and found better actors, which is a ridiculous complaint IMO. Almost all the actors performed their roles really well. The only exceptions where I had any complaints were Usopp's mom (but this is such a forceful pick on, it's hard to show anything more in the case of a bedridden woman who died in front of our eyes) or Captain Kuro's cats - the actors played ok, but their costumes, meowing... Well, it could have been better, but since I quickly forgot about it... Well, the element of the presented world - some people will like it, others won't. I really liked Kuro's power - it was presented in a very good way and faithful to the manga. It seems to me that this special effect is quite cheap to implement, like some powerful blows in anime (I recommend looking for videos of how animators work and what methods they have come up with to show the strength or speed of the strike / movement - you will be shocked , how crude it is not once. A decent drawing, which will be shaken, will add sound effects, add lines or other elements "dynamizing the action" and it's ready.). This is exactly how I imagine all these Shunpo (quick step in DB and "Ruroni Kenshin"), I will call them that, because although they often have proper names, the point is the same. I'll simplify it a bit, but it's like cheese and tomato pies - we can call it a casserole, pizza, flatbread, toast ... You know what it is, in essence it's supposed to be cheap, quick, warm and delicious food.

And since I'm talking about the effects, I'm not going to break into other fragments. I really like how they show Luffy's power - it's a bit different from how it was in the manga, but they had to do it because of the budget. BUT you can also see that they used Crocodile's translation (I bet it will be the boss of season 3, because somehow I don't want to believe that they would be able to adapt Arabasta in season 2, it's impossible. There would be bigger cuts than in the 2nd volume of "Game of Thrones" ", much larger) - the power of the Fruit depends on the imagination of the one who ate it. Garp's strength was also very nice, but the best was Mihawk's strength show - one of the Shichibukai, pirates who agreed to cooperate with the government in exchange for a piece of peace. At that point, it felt like either me or Asia accidentally turned on God of War or another PS5 game - we were transported to another world. A GREAT storyline! We got rid of the boring Don Krieg, who had absolutely nothing to offer, and used him as power projection material for Mihawk, which worked out fucking well. We saw how a gigantic difference separates him from the total mediocrity that Roronoa Zoro was with him at that time. The fight itself came out the same "XDDD" as in the anime - Zoro fights 120%, and he pulled out a sword with which he can cut his nails too long, buaahahahhahahahaha. Another thing, they change things but stay true to the original (either the solution to a given "problem" is similar or a different idea from Eiichiro Oda was used (e.g. this translation of Crocodile explains very well how Luffy learns it - the brain is working in overdrive in moments of real danger) or it is shown so that it is "supposedly different, but all in all the same, because in the spirit of OP".

Coming back to the actors, I also agreed with Karol that Nami got the worst scenes in the trailers. It happens sometimes, but I'm happy about it every time. You can feel the chemistry between the actors - even if Nami doesn't know OP, she knows a lot of other anime, so she only needs to understand a little what distinguishes OP from "Jujutsu Kaisen" (of which she is a huge fan) and that's it. Zoro certainly knows OP, it's like asking in Poland if someone doesn't know "The Witcher" or "Krzyżacy" (and yes, I know, there will be such people, but you understand what I mean), even if they don't know him know, otherwise it's a shame. Luffy... Luffy hits the spot perfectly, this actor (as well as the other members of the Straw Hats) won the lottery and should pray daily to his manager that he found him the role. It's like the author of "Demon Slayer" that her weak comic book (worse than DB) got a beautiful adaptation that made it a best-seller. Usopp the same, second best casting, absolutely no surprises, I've already said that after the promotional material, and this episode just proved me right. The scene revealing who Garp is and the consequences - beautiful! Thanks to these scenes, I really felt the bond building between them and I was reminded of scenes from the anime. They bite each other, sometimes even below the belt, but when things get serious, they treat each other as friends, and then there is no forgiveness. Especially telling was the scene where Luffy won a bet with Nami, and you see things like this much more often, this one was just the most expressive. So - the casting is very good, but I already said that before the premiere.

Anyway, I advise against watching the anime "One Piece". Why? Because it's completely unwatchable because of its slow pace, which the show emphasizes more than ever. Each episode could easily have 2-3 times as much content (well, let's say 2.5 pace would be appropriate). The manga is better than the anime in every way, it's a waste of time for something that's more drawn out than DBZ (and that's already insulting, like telling an elegant, beautiful woman that a drug addict from the gutter is cuter than she is). And ok, I know I'm in the minority with my opinion, but if you see the anime, you'll probably agree with me. Unfortunately, it's a relic of the old days that needs a remake, but most fans think otherwise. Well, fortunately, you don't have to limit yourself to animation, just be prepared for a lot of dialogue and more. And the standard opinion of my girlfriend, who hates pacing in 99% of anime (she doesn't mind pacing only when the action moves fast - like in movies, "Baki" or "Jojo's Bizzare Adventure", so far only associates the latter), she does not like anime, but I see her attitude gradually changing and she begins to see the better things in Chinese fairy tales. It's the same with anime, I don't feel forced about what OP thinks anymore, he just uses less generalities, he gets involved in important scenes more and more (Mihawk massacre Don Krieg, we loved it, Mihawk vs Zoro, the plot of Kaya, Usopp and Kuro) laughs more often, starts to "catch" this universe. I feel like she'll like the finale with Arlong, especially since I've already shown her some scenes from this arc and I'm pretty sure that the season 1 finale will be as powerful as in the anime.

Oh boy, mówiłem że OP zyskuje wraz z każdym odcinkiem, ale to idzie za szybko, ja już zaczynam się cieszyć tym serialem bardziej niż się tego spodziewałem w najbardziej optymistycznych założeniach! Poza tym, w czwartek zostałem zaproszony do podcastu o OP (tematem przewodnim odcinka ma być krytyka serialu, niezły chichot losu, że taka maruda będzie broniła tytułu, którego nie lubi od lat XDD), a pewnie w sobotę lub za tydzień, nagramy z Karolem nasze omówienie. Dlatego recenzji nie będzie, co najwyżej wrzucę jakiś tekst za rok, jak już emocje opadną.

80% opinii, które czytałem, bardzo krytykowały Kapitana Kuro, a do momentu Baratie, to był mój ulubiony... Hm, powiedzmy "mini-story-arc" w serialu. Na początku odcinka było ciut bardziej drewnianie niż we wcześniejszych, ale z każdą sceną jest coraz lepiej i to samo mogę powiedzieć o późniejszych odcinkach. Widać, że w końcu twórcy adaptacji przeczytali ten komiks (lub go znają, podobnie jak my), zrozumieli za co fani na całym świecie go pokochali, a potem usiedli i na spokojnie sobie zaplanowali, co wywalają, co zostawiają, co zmieniają. Często podkreślam, jak bardzo ważne jest to w planowaniu i moim zdaniem, Wiedźmin, Marvel, Star Wars, Dragon Ball Super wywalają się na tym etapie, mimo że są prostymi franczyami do zaplanowania (w tym sensie, że nie trzeba spełnić tyle warunków, co w przypadku adaptacji np. "One Piece", "Silmarillion", czy innych dzieł tego typu, które są zbyt rozbudowane, zbyt przemyślane i zbyt wymagające w odbiorze - tzn. nadal uważam, że można je zaadaptować, tylko trzeba to NAPRAWDĘ przemyśleć, a w przypadku DB, Marvela, Wiedźmina, wystarczy że pójdę z kolegami do "war-roomu", wypijemy kilka butelek wódki, spalimy kilka dżojntów i po max miesiącu siedzenia w takim pokoju, mamy gotowy plan na cały komiks / rozwój głównego contentu na najbliższych 5-10 lat), podczas gdy twórcy OP śmieją się niczym Garp lub Luffy i mówią: "Potrzymaj mi piwo".

Trzeba być po prostu wredną osobą, by szukać jakiś naprawdę dużych wad w tym serialu. Ja i Karol nie jesteśmy w stanie znaleźć tutaj dużej wady. W sensie takiej sytuacji, że mogę złapać twórców za rękę i powiedzieć: O, PATRZ! TO ZEPSUŁEŚ! Jedyny zarzut jaki do nich mam, to to że mogli dać większy budżet i znaleźć lepszych aktorów, co jest IMO śmiesznym zarzutem. Niemal wszyscy aktorzy, wywiązali się z powierzonych im ról naprawdę dobrze. Jedyne wyjątki, przy których miałem jakieś zarzuty to mama Usoppa (ale to takie czepianie się na siłę, trudno cokolwiek więcej pokazać w przypadku obłożnie chorej kobiety, która umarła na naszych oczach) lub te koty Kapitana Kuro - aktorzy zagrali ok, ale ich stroje, miauczenie... No, mogło być lepiej, ale skoro błyskawicznie o tym zapomniałem... Cóż, element świata przedstawionego - jednym się spodoba, innym nie. Bardzo mi się podobała moc Kuro - przedstawiono ją w bardzo dobry sposób oraz wiernie względem mangi. Wydaje mi się, że ten efekt specjalny jest dość tani w realizacji, tak jak np. niektóre potężne ciosy w anime (polecam poszukać filmików o tym, jak pracują animatorzy oraz jakie metody wymyślili, by pokazać siłę lub szybkość uderzenia / ruchu - będziecie w szoku, jak prostackie to nie raz jest. Porządny rysunek, którym się wstrząśnie, doda efekty dźwiękowe, dorysuje linie lub inne elementy "dynamizujące akcję" i gotowe.). Dokładnie tak widzę oczami wyobraźni te wszystkie Shunpo (szybkim krok w DB i "Ruroni Kenshin"), będę je tak nazywał, bo choć często mają nazwy własne, to chodzi o to samo. Trochę to uproszczę, ale to tak jak placki z serem i pomidorami - możemy to nazwać zapiekanką, pizzą, podpłomykiem, grzanką... Wiecie o co chodzi, w swojej istocie ma to być tanie, szybkie, ciepłe i wyborne żarcie.

A skoro gadam o efektach, to nie będę się rozdzielał na inne fragmenty. Bardzo mi się podoba to, jak pokazują moc Luffy'ego - trochę się to różni od tego, jak to było w mandze, ale musieli to zrobić bo budżet. ALE widać jednocześnie, że wykorzystali tłumaczenie Crocodile'a (obstawiam, że to będzie boss 3 sezonu, bo jakoś nie chce mi się wierzyć, by zdołali zaadaptować Arabastę w 2 sezonie, to niemożliwe. Byłyby większe cięcia niż w 2 tomie "Gry o Tron", znacznie większe) - moc Owocu zależy od wyobraźni tego, kto go zjadł. Siła Garpa też wyszła bardzo fajnie, ale najlepiej wypadła pokazówka siły Mihawka - jednego z Shichibukai, piratów którzy zgodzili się współpracować z rządem w zamian za część spokoju. W tym momencie poczułem się tak, jakbym ja lub Asia, przypadkowo włączył "God of War" lub inną grę na PS5 - przenieśliśmy się do innego świata. GENIALNY zabieg fabularny! Pozbyliśmy się nudnego Don Kriega, który nie miał totalnie nic do zaoferowania, posłużył on jako materiał na projekcję siły dla Mihawka, co wyszło zajebiście dobrze. Zobaczyliśmy jak gigantyczna różnica dzieli go od totalnej miernoty, jaką był wówczas przy nim Roronoa Zoro. Sama walka wyszła tak samo "XDDD" jak w anime - Zoro walczy na 120%, a ten wyciągnął mieczyk, którym może sobie obciąć zbyt długie paznokcie, buaahahahhahahahaha. Kolejna rzecz, zmieniają rzeczy, ale pozostają one wierne oryginałowi (albo rozwiązanie danego "problemu" jest podobne albo wykorzystano inny pomysł Eiichiro Ody (np. to tłumaczenie Crocodile'a bardzo dobrze wyjaśnia to, jak się tego uczy Luffy - mózg pracuje na wyższych obrotach w chwilach realnego zagrożenia) lub pokazano to tak, że jest "niby inaczej, ale w sumie tak samo, bo zgodnie z duchem OP".

Wracając do aktorów, zgodziłem się również z Karolem co do tego, że Nami dostała najgorsze sceny w trailerach. Czasem tak się zdarza, ale za każdym razem cieszę się z tego powodu. Czuć chemię między aktorami - nawet jeżeli Nami nie zna OP, to zna wiele innych anime, więc wystarczy jej wtedy tylko trochę ogarnąć, co odróżnia OP od "Jujutsu Kaisen" (którego jest wielką fanką) i tyle. Zoro na pewno zna OP, to tak jakbyśmy w Polsce zapytali, czy ktoś nie zna "Wiedźmina" lub "Krzyżaków" (i tak, wiem, znajdą się takie osoby, ale rozumiecie o co mi chodzi), nawet jeżeli nie zna, to go pozna, bo inaczej wstyd. Luffy... Luffy jest trafiony idealnie, ten aktor (jak i pozostali członkowie Straw Hats), wygrał los na loterii i powinien codziennie modlić się do swojego menagera, że mu znalazł tę rolę. Czołobitnie do ziemi, tak jak autorka "Demon Slayer", że jej słaby komiks (gorszy niż DB) dostał przepiękną adaptację, który uczynił z jego bestsellera. Usopp tak samo, drugi najdoskonalszy casting, absolutne zero zdziwienia, mówiłem to już po materiałach promocyjnych, a ten odcinek tylko pokazał, że mam rację. Scena z ujawnieniem, kim jest Garp i tego konsekwencje - piękne! Dzięki tym scenom, naprawdę poczułem budującą się między nimi więź i przypomniałem sobie sceny z anime. Dogryzają sobie, czasem nawet poniżej pasa, ale kiedy sprawy stają się poważne, traktują siebie jak przyjaciele, a wtedy nie ma wybacz. Szczególnie wymowna była scena, w której Luffy wygrał zakład z Nami, a takie rzeczy widać znacznie częściej, ta po prostu była najbardziej wyrazista. Zatem - casting bardzo dobry, ale ja już to mówiłem przed premierą.

Jakby co, odradzam oglądanie anime "One Piece". Dlaczego? Bo kompletnie nie da się go oglądać przez to powolne tempo, co serial podkreśla to mocniej niż kiedykolwiek. Każdy odcinek mógłby mieć lekką ręką 2-3 razy tyle contentu (no, powiedzmy 2.5 tempo byłoby odpowiednie). Manga jest pod każdym względem lepsza od anime, szkoda czasu na coś, co jest bardziej przeciągane niż DBZ (a to już jest obraźliwe, tak jakby powiedzieć eleganckiej, pięknej kobiecie, że narkomanka z rynsztoka jest od niej bardziej urodziwa). I ok, wiem, że jestem w mniejszości ze swoim zdaniem, ale jak zobaczcie anime, to raczej przyznacie mi rację. To niestety relikt dawnych czasów, któremu niezbędny jest remake, ale większośc fanów uważa inaczej. Cóż, na szczęście nie musicie się ograniczać do animacji, tylko przygotujcie się na dużą ilość dialogów i nie tylko.No i standardowo opinia mojej dziewczyny, która nienawidzi pacingu 99% anime (nie przeszkadzają jej tylko takie, gdzie akcja szybko leci - czyli jak w filmach kinowych, "Baki" lub "Jojo's Bizzare Adventure", póki co kojarzy tylko to drugie), nie przepada za anime, ale widzę jak jej podejście się stopniowo zmienia i zaczyna dostrzegać w chińskich bajkach te lepsze rzeczy. To samo jest z anime, już nie odpowiada mi w nieco wymuszony sposób, co myśli o OP, tylko używa mniej ogólników, coraz częściej angażuje się w ważne sceny (Mihawk masakrujący Don Kriega, bardzo nam się to podobało, Mihawk vs Zoro, wątek z Kayą, Usoppem i Kuro) częściej się śmieje, zaczyna "łapać" to uniwersum. Czuję, że finał z Arlongiem jej się spodoba, tym bardziej, że już jej pokazałem kilka scen z tego arcu i jestem prawie pewien, że finał 1 sezonu będzie równie mocarny, co w anime.

No i to "We Are". W idealnym momencie. Tak jak Batman theme w "Flash".
