A Journey of Exploring, Examining, and Reflecting

I was invited for this stage show called Ghat Ghat mein Panchi Bolta hai by one of the NGOs where I am associated with. This stage show was a series of monologues performed by various artists where they face their deeply buried secrets in a family and try to face them with courage. Every person and every family have a story, some sweet and some bitter and from the outside it is very easy to judge them but it takes courage and a higher seat to see the right side of the wrong.

This foundation Sakshi works towards Child Sexual Abuse and Women Empowerment but it's not only limited to that, they also work towards bringing awareness in family units be it a man or a woman about domestic violence. It is about expressing the truth and facing our own emotions.

There is so much of gender-based violence globally where woman suffer, high rate of own partner violence, most of the women go silent and get used to this violence. One of the monologues by a lady artist was very interesting where she mentions that she enjoys the dance of violence inflicted by her partner. She is so used to it that she feels safe in it and feels afraid of the world outside of it, she is conditioned to believe that she is ergonomically a weaker sex.

Deep within we all seek for truth for ourselves and we want to live that truth, but we are surrounded by many adversities and conditions of life where sometimes this truth is deeply buried within us knowingly or unknowingly. We live in cages fearing to fly, doubting our own abilities and wrapped in our own denials, silences, shame, and fear of stigma. The biggest fear we have is the fear of falling in other people's eyes and the fear of shame. We do not face these fears, rather we keep trying to cover them with building a superficial life around us which is unreal and just like a pack of cards which can crumble down easily someday.

There was an overflow of emotions in these monologues showing women of different generations, each going through their own challenges, as a mother, as a daughter and also a teenager. It was not only limited to the challenges of a women, even the male member expressing his state of mind. One of the artists wonderfully performed the role of a pedophile, and he realizes that he is a sexual predator and harmful for the society so he chooses to end his life by bringing punishment to his own self. In real life this is hardly the case, these types of people barely have any self-realization, but it was somewhere interesting to understand their state of mind as well.

It was concluded by the expression that we all humans are like tiny birds and we all have potential to soar high into the limitless sky, we have the ability to change the course of winds then why should we limit ourselves, cut our own wings and drop ourselves down.

It has been a long association for me with this group and over the years it has expanded and now it is a well established NGO which works at Pan-India level to prevent and address the child sexual abuse and domestic violence issues. In the last few years due to my absence in India I have not been actively participating in the activities, but I do try to whenever I am around.
