Have you ever thought about why people's standard of living is increasing day by day? Most people today can live much better than the rich people of the past, why is that?
One reason is the development of technology. Advances in technology have made human life easier and of better quality. Another factor is the increasing population. How does the large population affect the quality of life?
Because many goods and services require large fixed costs to produce, it only makes sense to produce them if the market is large enough. Goods and services with large fixed costs will not be affordable if the market is small. Because the market is large, costs can be shared among many people, making it affordable.
We certainly cannot enjoy cheap gadgets from China if they are not mass-produced. Because the sunk costs and fixed costs of the gadget factory are certainly very large. We also certainly cannot enjoy live football broadcasts cheaply if the number of paying subscribers is not large. We can enjoy what we enjoy today is because other people also buy it. Humans are truly social creatures.
