Power, money, influence—inequality is a frightening concern for many people. One former president called inequality ”the defining challenge of our time,” while partisan politicians paint one side as a bunch of heartless monsters and the other side as brainless as the living dead.

Historically, the wealthy got their wealth by exploiting the poor. In the 20th century and beyond, this hasn't been as true and in fact many wealthy businessmen have done much to improve the quality of life for us all. However, the politically connected can still make use of government power to exploit the public. The problem comes when those fighting against "inequality" do so by supporting policies that involve granting the government more power. This has the opposite of the desired effect.
