Die diesjährige SockMadness ist gestartet. Eine Strickanleitung wurde an all die Hunderte geschickt, die sich dafür registriert hatten. Es gilt binnen zwei Wochen ein Paar Socken zu stricken und dabei die Anweisung ganz genau zu folgen, Masche für Masche. Zwei nicht wiederholte kleine Fehler sind erlaubt - mehr nicht. Wer durch die Qualifikation kommt, darf am Wettbewerb teilnehmen.
This year's SockMadness has started. A knitting pattern was sent to all the hundreds who registered. The task is to knit a pair of socks within two weeks, following the instructions exactly, stitch for stitch. Two small mistakes that are not repeated are allowed - nothing more. Those who make it through the qualification phase are allowed to take part in the competition.
Sembonzakura bedeutet wortwörtlich "Eintausend Kirschbäume", wird aber eher im Sonne von "Blütenmeer" verwendet. Nun, es sind nicht Tausende oder auch nur Hunderte, aber ein gutes Dutzend gut erkennbarer Blüten wird diese Socken schmücken. Ich bin jetzt kurz vor der Ferse des ersten Sockens und bin gespannt, wie ich mit der Fersenkonstruktion klarkomme. Die Zunahmen liegen hier nämlich in der hinteren Mitte - das hatte ich noch nie!
SSembonzakura literally means "one thousand cherry trees", but is more commonly used in the sense of "sea of blossoms". Well, there are not thousands or even hundreds, but a good dozen easily recognisable blossoms will be decorating these socks. I am now close to the heel of the first sock and am curious to see how I will handle the heel construction. The increases are in the centre back - I've never had that before!
