Prime Video has started to show adverts if you don't pay an extra 2.99 per month.
At the moment it seems to be very few adverts, only short ones (only one at a time).
The consumer advice centre says that this is an unlawful price increase and is seeking to bring an association action.
Stiftung Warentest has published a sample letter with which you can try to defend yourself.
Amazon will probably not respond, but if the lawsuit is successful, you could be reimbursed at least €2.99/month. Because the advertising is apparently worth that much, probably even more.
What do you think? I think it's outrageous that they're introducing it like this, especially for current contracts. My annual subscription still has a few months to run.
I'll then think about whether I really want to extend it, or maybe just book it on a monthly basis as I "need" it.
I think Netflix's approach is much better here, because Netflix hasn't increased the price but is offering a cheaper version with adverts, at least it's not a price increase yet.
This is because existing customers still have the slimmed-down subscription that I have. However, you can no longer book this slimmed-down subscription as a new customer.
With the slimmed-down subscription, you can only watch 1 stream and not in Full HD, which we don't need.
If existing customers receive a cancellation notice, the cheaper option with a subscription would be available, but those who don't want this would have to dig much deeper into their pockets.
I have to say that we very rarely use Prime Video, right now only because we watch The Handmades Tail and sometimes LOL, but otherwise I don't know what we've watched in the last few months.

Prime Video hat begonnen nun Werbung einzublenden, wenn man nicht 2,99 extra im Monat zahlt.
Aktuell scheint es recht wenig zu sein, sind nur kurze Werbeblöcke (immer nur einer).
Die Verbraucherzentrale sagt dazu, dass es sich um eine unrechtmäßige Preiserhöhung handelt und strebt eine Verbandsklage an.
Stiftung Warentest hat einen Musterbrief veröffentlicht, mit dem man versuchen kann sich zu wehren.
Vermutlich wird Amazon darauf nicht reagieren, aber sollte die Klage erfolgreich sein könnte es sein, das man mind. 2,99/Monat erstattet bekommt. Denn soviel ist die Werbung scheinbar ja Wert, wahrscheinlich mehr sogar.
Was sagt ihr dazu? Ich finde das unverschämt, das die es nun so einführen, vorallem bei laufenden Verträgen. Mein Jahresabo läuft noch eine paar Monate.
Werde mir dann überlegen ob ich es wirklich verlängere, oder vielleicht nur Monatsweise dann mal buche wie ich es "brauche".
Hier finde ich das Vorgehen von Netflix deutlich besser, denn Netflix hat den Preis nicht erhöht, sondern bietet eine günstigere Version mit Werbung an, zumindest ist es noch keine Preiserhöhung.
Denn noch gibt es für Bestandskunden das abgespeckte Abo, das ich habe. Buchen kann man dieses abgespeckte Abo aber nicht mehr als Neukunde.
Bei dem abgespeckten Abo kann man nur 1 Stream laufen lassen und das nicht in Full HD, was wir aber auch nicht benötigen.
Sollten Bestandskunden eine Kündigung bekommen, stünde zwar die günstigere Variante mit Abo zur Verfügung, wer dies aber nicht möchte, der müsste deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen.
Dabei muss ich sagen, dass wir sehr selten Prime Video nutzen, jetzt gerade nur, weil wir The Handmades Tail gucken und mal LOL, aber sonst wüsste ich gar nicht was wie in den letzten Monaten geguckt hätten.
