yesterday I harvested the first kohlrabi.
To be honest, until recently I didn't realize that kohlrabi grows completely above the ground. I thought it was like the radishes and that they partially protruded from the soil.
And that it's on a really thick root.
I thought I would just cut it off. But I had to rip it out completely and then cut it off.
Unfortunately, one of the three kohlrabi was very woody, so I could only use the outer layer for my kohlrabi lasagna.
There won't be any more next year. Too much space for too little yield. It also takes ages until they are ready. I'd rather have a lot more lettuce next year.

gestern habe ich die ersten Kohlrabi geerntet.
Muss ehrlich sagen, bis vor kurzem wusste ich gar nicht das die Kohlrabi kompletg über der Erde wächst. Hatte gedacht, das es wie bei den Radieschen ist und diese zum Teil aus der Erde ragt.
Und das diese auf einer echt dicken Wurzel drauf ist.
Dachte ich schneide die da mal eben ab. Aber ich musste sie komplett rausreißen und dann abschneiden.
Leider war eine der drei Kohlrabi sehr holzig, sodass ich davon nur die äußere Schicht für meine Kohlrabilasagne nutzen konnte.
Nächstes Jahr wird es keine mehr geben. Zu viel Platz für zu wenig Ertrag. Dauert zudem eine ewigkeit, bis diese soweit sind. Dann doch lieber nächstes Jahr viel mehr Salat.
