in deutsch •  3 years ago

I will take you on a journey into my past and we will visit many places in Greece together. I lived in Greece for 16 years until the end of 2020 and was able to take many beautiful pictures there.

I will always attempt to post the exact Google Map link to where the picture taken. This way, you can also see on the map page exactly where we were when the picture taken.

It looks like I will be lucky enough to live in Greece again in May. Then I will also publish current pictures.

I hope you enjoy the journey through Greece, where I will gladly take you along a bit every day.

Visit to the small town of Pylos | 442 Words

After our visit to the ox belly bay and the repair of our tire, we drove to Pylos where we stopped at a tavern located directly at the harbor basin. From our seats, we could look directly into the clear water and watch schools of fish.

Unfortunately, the photos of the fish didn't turn out very well. It has to be said that they were taken with a digital camera, which was modern at the time, but any old mobile phone today takes better pictures. I rarely had my expensive photo equipment with me.

After we had refreshed ourselves in the tavern, my girlfriend and her son set off to explore the Neo Kastro castle there. This was built by the Ottomans in the 16th century to control the southern entrance to the Bay of Navarino.

I had no desire to climb the hill as the fort located. I was still exhausted from changing bikes and all the stress of the tour. So, I decided to take a nap :)

The good thing about travelling with a camper van—you can take a rest and also a nap almost anywhere you want.

On one of the pictures, you can see our motor home, which was photographed from the fort.

We decided to spend the night there and had a nice evening in the small town. The first few years, we actually went out to eat every day. The prices, mainly away from the tourist areas, are so low that it's not worth cooking for ourselves, even though we had a proper kitchen with all the trimmings in the big camper van.

When we returned to the motor home at night, the local sheriffs were already waiting for us. They clarified it for us that you are not allowed to stand there with a motor home, let alone spend the night there. Actually, I was aware that too because there was also a big sign with a crossed-out motor home on the access road. I then attempted to explain that our poor little child was so tired and that was why I didn't want to drive on. That was nonsense, of course because he could have gone to sleep if I had driven :)

But these policemen were also nice, and they clarified it for me that we were allowed to spend the night there, but that we should be out of their by 9 o'clock the next morning. The next morning, however, we dutifully drove away from there and back to the campsite we had chosen as our base station. Years later, we moved into a house there and actually lived there for 16 years.
