Some things to keep in mind with wifi today (ES/ENG)

Una de las cosas más molestas que le puede pasar a cualquiera en el día de hoy es que por ejemplo le ralenticen su red de internet de manera desproporcionada, y algunas veces sin ser personas cercanas las que hagan uso de la misma, sino algunos intrusos que se dedican a explotar el ancho de banda y esto es algo que se ve mucho en mi país y que se vuelve un poco un tema del que cuidarse.

Pues se podría pensar que los más jóvenes seriamos, de los que más nos preocuparíamos de estos temas y que de cierto puede ser, pero en estos días me sorprendió como una amiga de la familia (una persona de más de 80) me mando a llamar apresuradamente, pues me decía que estaba usando su internet como de costumbre en Youtube y hablando con sus familiares en el extranjero y que de la nada todo empezó a ir más lento y hasta a dejar de trabajar con la normalidad que acostumbra.

Y es que, al consultar, ella me comentaba que de unos días para acá veía como cada vez más muchachos y niños se sentaban cerca de su lado de la acera, justo al frente de su casa, por lo que algo había pasado y ella notaba que cuando se llenaba el lugar, era cuando más le costaba funcionar a la red, por lo que habiendo escuchado eso decidí ayudarle con los intrusos.

Ya que es común que en la actualidad la mayoría de instaladores de servicios de internet, o algunas compañías, te faciliten algunos routers con sistemas débiles, o con una configuración muy poco segura, y es lo que con algo de conocimiento del caso algunas personas pueden fabricarse una puerta de acceso al hacer una “entrada forzada”.

Suena complicado, pero en realidad es más sencillo de lo que parece, y de igual manera pasa con la manera de resguardarse de la misma, y es que si desactivamos el “check” de esa “vulnerabilidad” estaríamos ganando en un gran porcentaje la capacidad de resguardarnos de estos intrusos, aunque como dicen por ahí quien hace la ley hace la trampa y en la actualidad hay unas cuantas maneras de obtener este acceso como puede ser al compartir las claves y SSID por medio de códigos QR.

Por lo que, si se quiere erradicar de manera completa, hay que empezar a restringir o autorizar el acceso de dispositivos a la misma, pues basta con que una sola persona tenga las credenciales para propagarlas de cierta manera, pues al final las claves pueden ser muy buenas, pero hay que tener en cuenta que el eslabón más débil de todo el sistema somos nosotros mismos muchas veces y es algo que hay que siempre estar pendiente y tener a margen.

You would think that the younger ones would be the ones who would worry more about these issues and that may be true, but these days I was surprised as a family friend (a person over 80) sent me a call in a hurry, because she told me that she was using her internet as usual on Youtube and talking to her relatives abroad and that suddenly everything started to slow down and even stop working as normal as usual.

When I asked her, she told me that from a few days ago she saw how more and more boys and children were sitting near her side of the sidewalk, just in front of her house, so something had happened and she noticed that when the place was full, it was when it was more difficult for the network to work, so having heard that, I decided to help her with the intruders.

Since it is common that nowadays most internet service installers, or some companies, provide you with some routers with weak systems, or with a very unsafe configuration, and that is what with some knowledge of the case some people can make an access door by making a "forced entry".

It sounds complicated, but it is actually simpler than it seems, and likewise happens with the way to protect against it, and if we disable the "check" of this "vulnerability" we would be gaining a large percentage of the ability to protect us from these intruders, although as they say out there who makes the law makes the trap and today there are a few ways to gain this access such as sharing the keys and SSIDs through QR codes.

So, if you want to eradicate it completely, you have to start restricting or authorizing the access of devices to it, because it is enough that only one person has the credentials to spread them in a certain way, because in the end the keys can be very good, but we must take into account that the weakest link in the whole system is often ourselves and it is something that we must always be aware and have a margin.
