Curious cases about GPS and why I now "believe it more" (ES/ENG)

Hay cosas tan útiles que algunas veces las podemos pasar desapercibidas dentro de las herramientas que podemos tener a mano para nuestro día a día, y una de ellas que quizás algunos no usan tanto, al menos en mi país es el GPS, y es que este “pequeño programa” tiene un enorme potencial y puede ayudarnos a ahorrar mucho tiempo en algunas ocasiones.

Pues hace ya unos cuantos años, recuerdo que, en un viaje a la capital del país, nosotros lo llevábamos puesto solo por “probar” pues la vía a transitar generalmente tiene pocas vertientes, pero generalmente se suele usar siempre la “opción clásica” por temas de seguridad algunas veces o de practicidad o costumbre como suele pasar en muchos casos.

Resulta que nosotros en esa oportunidad vimos que el GPS nos comentaba algo del estilo de “su desvío se aproxima, tome la salida a la izquierda y continúe por tal lugar”, nosotros nos vimos las caras todos y en eso decimos, “nah para qué vamos a tomar por allá, es más lento, además para pasar por ahí mejor por acá que es ¨más rápido¨”.

Acto seguido y después de que el GPS nos dijera de manera constante y reiterada que retornáramos hasta él desvió, nosotros decidimos apagarle el volumen y fue cuando unos cuantos kilómetros mas adelante nos dimos cuenta del porqué de esto, y es que había una enorme fila para seguir avanzando a causa de un río que estaba “salido” por lo que el tránsito estaba casi paralizado.

Por lo que tuvimos que retornar hasta el mencionado desvío para poder seguir nuestro camino, esta vez sí haciendo caso a lo que este nos indicaba, pues tenía datos que nosotros no manejábamos en el momento y que de darse en una situación como la actual, en el que la gasolina es todo un tema, hubiera ahorrado unos cuantos litros, por lo que, si usan un GPS, ya saben, háganle caso y mantengan siempre alerta del porqué indica una ruta que quizás no veamos “bien” por no ir a lo tradicional.

There are things so useful that sometimes we can pass them unnoticed within the tools that we can have at hand for our day to day, and one of them that perhaps some do not use so much, at least in my country is the GPS, and this "little program" has enormous potential and can help us save a lot of time on some occasions.

Well, a few years ago, I remember that, on a trip to the capital of the country, we used it just to "try" because the road to travel generally has few slopes, but generally the "classic option" is always used for security reasons sometimes or for practicality or habit as often happens in many cases.

It turns out that in that opportunity we saw that the GPS told us something like "your detour is approaching, take the exit to the left and continue through such place", we all looked at each other's faces and then we said, "nah why are we going to take that way, it is slower, besides to go through there it is better to go this way, it is "faster".

Then and after the GPS told us constantly and repeatedly to return to the detour, we decided to turn off the volume and it was when a few kilometers ahead we realized the reason for this, and is that there was a huge line to move forward because of a river that was "out" so the traffic was almost paralyzed.

So we had to return to the aforementioned detour to continue our way, this time paying attention to what it indicated, because it had data that we did not handle at the time and that in a situation like the present, in which gasoline is an issue, would have saved a few liters, so if you use a GPS, you know, pay attention to it and always keep alert to why it indicates a route that we may not see "well" for not going to the traditional.
