Let's Talk About Death & Dying

in death •  3 years ago  (edited)

There are experiences that have the power to change one's life. Such experiences tend to be recorded as random events and, because they appear to be unbidden, become classed as either delusions of the mind or religious truths.

But what if they are neither? What if they are just accessing ordinary states of mind that appear to be extraordinary only through their lack of use? What would happen if everyone was able to generate the same experiences?

I am talking about death.

OK, it obviously isn't terminal death, else we would be talking about funeral rites, but close enough to be named near-death experiences, or NDEs. Such experiences come with many narratives, but one overwhelming consequence is the lack of fear of the real death to come.

In a world paralysed by the fear of dying, it strikes me as bizarre that this has transformed into the fear of life itself. Life has become so precious that it must be locked away... and made lifeless. Especially if it is someone else's life.

So let me go through a few videos, articles and websites about the transcendental experience of almost dying.

Here is an amusingly titled video: Why He No Longer Has Faith After His Near Death Experience (NDE).

The full interview is here.

I don't really care what anybody believes, as I treat such beliefs with the same lack of interest. What is important is the experience - and the transformation. Some day, all of us will experience something similar, but not many will live to tell the tale. In order to do that, we need to gain some mastery over the experience of this otherwise mysterious state of mind.

That would achieve three things: an articulate language in which to describe such experiences; a tentative map of such transcendental spaces; and an expanded sense of what humans can achieve.

There is no app for this.

Thank you,
I enjoyed you writing about these ideas and raising the subject of avoiding to live fully because of fear of death, which in fact is just another transition as we will all come to experience sooner or later. Some of us come back to tell it and some will move on to the next stage in the evolution of the One Consciousness. But avoiding enjoying life for fear of death is just another absurdity of the human confusion in the trap of mind-created illusions that seemingly are separate from our own expectation of what's to come...

"What if they are just accessing ordinary states of mind that appear to be extraordinary only through their lack of use? What would happen if everyone was able to generate the same experiences?" This is exactly what the spiritual practices invite you to do - access the extraordinary states of mind and make them a permanent state. Samadhi. The "direct knowledge" has no rival in any form of writing, scriptures or recounts of other people's experiences. Nothing is more powerful in transforming one's perception of "reality" and worldview than personal experience.

"In order to do that, we need to gain some mastery over the experience of this otherwise mysterious state of mind." Exactly. Something I am actually writing about these days.

Thank you for this thought provoking post.

Look forward to them - followed now (I thought I already had, but could have been another account. lol)
Yes, the science of spirit in the East has (sadly) no real equivalent living heritage in the West - complex history without the time now! Also sadly because it means transposing what appear "alien" texts into some natural English equivalent. Indeed, very few published texts describe in detail the various states, as that is left to the teacher to impart to the student. IMO best to leave the technical words such as samadhi or rigpa as they are so as to then give a fresh definition.

The good part is that such things can and do happen spontaneously :-) Then it is up to the individual to gain mastery - that is perhaps much harder than the flash of experience.

"The good part is that such things can and do happen spontaneously :-) Then it is up to the individual to gain mastery - that is perhaps much harder than the flash of experience." Exactly!! In most of the cases those are the "tipping point" moments in peoples' lives and then they start seeking the same experiences consciously. Thus the importance of "spiritual" or "transcendental" practices that lead to "direct experience", Gnosis, instead of just reading books and soaking up god-concepts and dogmas written by others.

I cannot agree that the "western" spiritual lore has less to offer than eastern traditions.
The whole modern secular literature (let's take the last 1000 years) is densely permeated with alchemical symbolism, where the wise people who have had the experiences are trying to pass on the message and teachings through metaphors, at the same time risking to be persecuted by the Holy Catholic Inquisition...
Most of the western legends, fairy tales, myths and "pagan folklore" are teachings and revelations and advise for the Truth Seekers. They are lavishly loaded with symbolism and messages. But only those who "have eyes to see and ears to hear" understand them. And no, Freud wasn't an alchemist hahaha.
But Jung was...

The true god-realized alchemists are a threat to the System that needs people dumb and locked in the programmed mind limitations. Conscious Creators cannot be subdued by anything that hasn't been created by their own mind. So, "samadhi" states are for our own benefit. Being aware of where our mental focus is in every given moment - thus, taking responsibility for what our thoughts are creating.

If you follow me, I'll write :)) ..somehow had lost the motivation lately, had a feeling that no one here really understands what I am writing :)) I even considered just to post #instablurt pics with me eating a cake or me playing with a dog hahahaha :)))))))
Thank you.

After personally seeing a ghost (evil spirit) in my college building one early morning I learned that the spiritual world is more real than the carnal because earth will get destroyed but I do not know if how you can destroy spiritual beings except by the power of God. 😐

PS. that College building is known for being hunted but I wasn't thinking about it when it finally happened to me and I am not bullshitting it is one of my unique experience here in my life which gave me some value about a better life with God other than this temporary concrete jungle where we have to struggle to survive .

I think you described this once, right? Was a writing prompt... prob some months ago?
You may be interest in Fr Lampert's interviews on YT regarding spirits - and yes, if you're scared, then leave them alone ;-)

Yes Sir I told that story a few times before 😊and also I am glad that it was not really that frightening as it was daylight already at around 7:00 AM that morning.

Hey @rycharde, long time no see. Can this fit better here? You have not been on Noise for a while. Please moderate my post in your channel. After chambers are gone I have chosen your and did not expect it to be moderated. Hope you're well! https://noise.cash/c/finsoc-421qgpn1

Thanks, just had a look at it.
Thought channels were supposed to be moderated - of course, the mod could set it to be open and do nothing. lol

In fact, you are right. Because a real human experience can completely change the way a person lives. And we cannot deny this. Thank you for presenting such an instructive article. Many good wishes for you so that you can always give us such a gift of instructive writing.

Death on a whole is something we only think we can assume the feelings but we all have different experience or thought of what death is like and none of our experiences has ever been the same on what we perceive or feel death is. For me death has remain a mystery even to the scariest of experience, the greatest problem for man is death.

In fact, death is certain and all have to die one day without any doubt. And all have to taste it.
