The treatment session went well, I asked the nurse to run the blood pump to 300 mL again because I am not sure if they are keeping that setting. I just needed more of my blood to travel through the blood lines and into the dialyzer because more blood to get rinsed the better the cleaning quality and the better I will feel after the dialysis session.

The blood pump tends to get changed if I happen to get a bout of hypotension then on my next session the nurse will look at the last blood pump settings and see it to be lower so they will set it that way again.

Blood pump is a crucial thing for the longevity of the dialysis patient because since the dialysis standard here in my country is lower compared to the west the blood pump is also lower. In turn the patients doesn't get cleaned well with their blood so it makes them either thirsty after the session making them tend to drink more because not much sodium is taken-off so in turn the blood pressure rises and it causes complications to the heart and lungs.

Most patients get to be dialyzed twice a week because even though we use a government insurance it is still limited so in the end of the year we have to pay out of pocket. It is just now with the pandemic we are given a whole year of treatment even if we would go thrice a week.

Still it will be a burden on the pockets because we have to pay extra for hospital bills. A few private hospital here in my province charges an amount about 2/3 of the amount if we would pay out of pocket considering that we are using the health insurance which is why I can't really transfer into that dialysis center from that hospital easily.

Also in the west they are not re-using the dialyzer, the blood filter that we use that cleans out the blood, filtering the blood from creatinine, nitrogen compounds, and other toxins including molecules that is needed by the body like protein compounds and water-soluble vitamins. We reuse the dialyzer here because it is just too expensive it change it every session as it costs more than around $40 dollars depending on the hospital.

But of course the quality of dialysis session we get is just enough to bridge our life and complications from having a bad skin coloration up to changes in the bone if not death occurs like normal which shouldn't be the case.

Not to mention the brain-drain among dialysis nurses which leaves the country after they are done with their experience of practicing from the fellow Filipinos. So we end up with new nurses practicing on us in a regular basis.

But I am just thankful that at least we have a government health insurance that we rely on and as time goes by I think the benefits will improve like a total dialysis session all throughout the year even with a thrice weekly session plus EPO injections after session and I can see that happening in the future because the government here in my country at least has a heart to give sympathy to the vulnerable sectors of society.
