Good morning, dear friends, and welcome to another beautiful new week.

Cain's arrogance degraded him, causing him to roam the planet apart from everyone and everything he held dear. When God gently chastised him, he did not respond graciously; instead, he made a decision that ultimately brought him to ruin. Cain and Abel's tale is a tale of the inner self. Genesis relates that when they presented their offerings to the Lord, Abel was esteemed in addition to having his sacrifice accepted. However, God showed Cain no respect, and He turned down his sacrifice. Until God possesses your heart, no matter how much you bring to Him, He will not be moved by your gift. You are what He desires!

Cain's actions—his murder of his brother, his lying to hide it from God, his jealousy, his rage, and his refusal to repent—were all clear manifestations of his pride. People are driven against one another by pride. It drains the vitality out of the connections it infects, much like a boa constrictor. Pride never gets tired of announcing its own successes. It consistently asserts its dominance. Pride shows out its strength at the cost of someone else. Self-importance and arrogance go hand in hand with pride. Its foundations are found in self-idolatry.

Do you harbor pride, as Cain did? Is it speaking with life? Is it sabotaging your relationships and making the people you care about uncomfortable? Before pride brings you low, humble yourself before the Lord.
