Good morning, dear friends, and welcome to another beautiful new week.
To be able to hear from God, we also need to develop an attentive mindset. According to Nouwen, it's critical to listen with all of our senses—not just our ears. This entails paying attention to the individuals in our immediate vicinity, the wonders of creation, and the flutters of our emotions. These spiritual avenues are frequently used by God to communicate with us and bring us closer to Himself.
Stillness is the art of hearing God. This is aptly demonstrated by Elijah's experience with God on Mount Horeb. In 1 Kings 19:11–13, Elijah discovered God in the soft murmur rather than in the wind, earthquake, or fire. We are invited into a close relationship with our Creator by this whisper, this "still small voice." It asks us to stop, to remain motionless, and to listen with our hearts' ears.
Like Elijah, how often do we miss God's gentle presence in the mundane times of our lives and instead look for Him in the dramatic and extraordinary? Scripture and personal experience both demonstrate to us that God can be clearly heard in the details of ordinary life. We hear His voice in our silent prayers, in the calm times of introspection, and during serene walks in the outdoors. We need to make room in our lives for silence if we are to hear from the Lord. In a society that prioritizes noise and productivity, this is difficult, but it is necessary for our spiritual health. It was the pattern of participation and retreat that Jesus Himself modeled. He would frequently withdraw to isolated areas to pray, spend time in the Father's company, and get renewal from Him. A humble heart learns to speak silence fluently by immersing itself in it. Silence is the language of God.
God converses with you via Scripture, providing guidance, consolation, and wisdom. All of these things are constantly present in silence: the holy book, a calm existence, and a soft murmur that invites you to a closer relationship with the Father, Lord, and Spirit. Accept His Word as food, the discipline of stillness, and the gift of awareness. When you do this, you will hear the still small voice of God, directing your faith journey and serving as a constant reminder of His love. Reduce the amount of talk, increase prayer, decrease activity, and pay attention to the soft voice of the Lord.
"Sing to the LORD a new song—His praise in the assembly of the godly. Let Israel rejoice in their Maker; let the children of Zion rejoice in their King. Let them praise His name with dancing, and make music to Him with tambourine and harp. For the LORD takes pleasure in His people; He adorns the afflicted with salvation." - Psalm 149:1-4"
