The Steady Saint

A steady saint is one who has the courage to keep going even when faced with obstacles. While God's will is occasionally honored at the peak of a mountain, much of life is spent scaling a rocky face or finding equilibrium on a slick slope. It takes persistence to move up or down. Yes, it is comforting to go with someone who has endured a like journey. They have the discernment to act bravely and to wait it out. Usually, God's plan unfolds in a convoluted manner.

What does God currently want for you? Doing the next right thing is a surefire way to succeed. Instead of worrying too much about what has to get done in six months, concentrate on making the most of today. Request that the Holy Spirit give you knowledge and faith for today. Daily compliance sets the stage for weekly aspirations, monthly goals, quarterly benchmarks, and ultimately, annual successes. God's will must be done now in order to be done tomorrow.

For instance, if you're a husband or wife, start your day with a prayer for your partner to feel loved by you and by their Heavenly Father. Pray for your child in the same way if you are a parent. If you are not married, ask the Lord to give you a single thing to rely on and follow. Purify yourself every day with the sanitizing effects of prayer and scripture. If you are a manager at work, find out how you can support the people you oversee. Following Christ's teachings to the letter is God's will.

Your Heavenly Father understands your anxiety about these two irreconcilable choices. He desires for you to rely on His heart and mind during this challenge. Perhaps He wants you to explore a third alternative with the sage advice of a reliable confidant. Make sure your goal is to persevere as the Holy Spirit leads you to the next course of action, rather than to flee from a problem or dispute. Your reward for waiting through a difficult situation is God's promise. You fulfill God's will by acting morally. You will follow Christ's will if you walk closely with Him!
