At the office, we occasionally spend excessive time in conferences and not sufficient time doing what we agreed to do! I wrestle with this—I want to obtain as much solid advice from as many intelligent individuals as possible, but it's not always practical to postpone a choice. I'm learning to collect data and people's perspectives, but then believe in the Lord, analyze what I've learned, and make adjustments as needed. If I wait past the window of possibilities, I risk losing the forward movement gained from a fascinating, productive encounter. Fewer meetings and greater follow-through energize the team!

A prophet named Nehemahia saw the importance of assembling an equal number of competent leaders with the single goal of finishing a big undertaking. He was an exceptional project manager! Yes, over 150 workmen from varied societal and national backgrounds joined, each uniquely trained to perform the momentous mission of constructing the wall encircling Jerusalem. Nehemiah delivered a passionate motivational speech, structured the team around specified objectives, and ensured that everyone did their part. Even as the adversary sought to disrupt the operation, the workers were prepared to repel their assailants.

Are you "overindulgent by attending too many meetings? Overwhelmed by your "to do list" and unclear how to prioritize it? Why not stop trying to accomplish everything that you do, give your pride a vacation, and allow the Lord to do the things you don't have the energy to do well. Delegate so that others can develop their leadership and management skills. Allow for margin to account for errors, upgrades, and interruptions. It is preferable to have a smaller number of conferences with favorable results than numerous conferences with poor results. Try concentrating 20% on teamwork and 80% on execution, rather than the contrary.

Genuine cooperation does not attempt to manage disagreement, but rather accepts and even encourages it. Different viewpoints, like sand paper, smooth the rough sides of raw and tattered thought, resulting in the best solutions to the most pressing situations. Untested thoughts encourage superficial commitments, whereas verbalized concepts require us to demonstrate the importance of our point of view. Some steps to good collaboration include courteous disagreement, short-term consensus on a solution, testing the concept, evaluating it, and long-term process improvements. Above all, partner with Jesus and offer prayers for His Spirit to assist the finest results.
