Good morning, dear friends, and welcome to another beautiful new week.
Anything we rely in outside of Jesus Christ is flimsy and deceitful, just like a spider web. We can put our faith in money, ourselves, or an unhealthy dependency on another person, only to be let down and misled. However, self-deception is the most difficult to recognize and overcome. If we are not conscious and humble, we can persuade ourselves into any situation. This is the mechanism of pride.
Pride claims to know everything and to not need assistance from others. However, we must humble ourselves and, at the absolute least, validate our thoughts at this juncture of pride and humility. Avoid stumbling into a maze of unwise regret by ignoring wisdom. Ask the Holy Spirit and sage advisors for advice on how to improve or completely change our concept. Pride conjures up idealistic pictures that seem plausible but don't reflect the reality of genuinely depending on God. It takes effort to be humble.
When Peter admonished the early church, he encapsulated the idea of letting go of false self-talk (1 Peter 2:1). To eliminate oneself means to eradicate the unseen webs of the enemy speaking falsehoods about your lack of necessity, the meaninglessness of your thoughts, and the futility of your efforts. This process must be repeated often. Webs are unsettling, sticky, and frightening, but you can use your bristle brush of faith in the Holy Spirit to recognize and swap out flimsy, fragile lies for trustworthy truth. This is what it means to be loved by our heavenly father. You have all the good gifts He has given you to give God your very best. Take it slowly and recognize His goodness.
Think of this procedure as a regular way to cut the nets of self-deception. Transform your quiet ideas into spoken sentences. Speaking aloud might have a depressing effect. Saying something aloud encourages me to think through all the implications of a decision, including time, money, energy, and most importantly, how it will affect other people. For instance, I may be considering a project at home or at work. When I don't pray, I usually underestimate the expense. It brings to mind the words of Jesus in Luke 14:28–30.
After you've expressed your thoughts aloud, decide if you truly accept the reality of what's involved or if you're just liking the concept. Then, ask reliable advisors for their opinions. Listen to them honestly and avoid deluding yourself by only asking for an evasive response to what you believe you want to hear. Avoiding self-deception requires humility, teachability, and active listening. Above all, however, seek the mind of Christ to disentangle the webs of thin, sticky lies and reattach them with liberating truth.
"Sing to the LORD a new song—His praise in the assembly of the godly. Let Israel rejoice in their Maker; let the children of Zion rejoice in their King. Let them praise His name with dancing, and make music to Him with tambourine and harp. For the LORD takes pleasure in His people; He adorns the afflicted with salvation." - Psalm 149:1-4"
God is good.
