Curses, how true can they be?

I was flipping through the channels one evening when I came upon a program about haunted houses. Although it's not the kind of TV I usually watch, this one was really captivating.

In this specific instance, a man named John, who had recently separated, moved into a new home. After his divorce, he genuinely had very little left, therefore he was fortunate to have purchased the house furnished. All he needed to do was relocate his personal items. He began organizing some of the remaining items in the house while he was moving in. Having a fresh start, he felt good about himself and was extremely comfortable and joyful.

Since he was working from home as well, he discovered some old poetry in an envelope he had discovered in one of the drawers while organizing his study. Since the envelope was most likely something the previous owner had forgotten at the property, John chose not to discard it and instead intended to send it back to them. He was so exhausted that evening that he curled up in his study with a glass of wine. Since he hadn't set up his television yet, he recalled the old poetry. As he read, he discovered that every poem discussed death, suicide, and pessimism.

Though he didn't dwell on it, he did believe that the prior owner was a very sinister individual and must have been depressed at the time these poems were written. Re-enclosing the poems in the envelope, he locked it back in his drawer.

John had a rough night's sleep that particular one. At first, he believed he had consumed too much alcohol, but he also felt unwell. Something kept waking him, and he felt bad about the new house. He was still feeling a little down about his life when he woke up the following morning, but he concluded it was just a result of being exhausted.

John operated his business from home, so he spent the day there. Even though he had no particular cause to be pessimistic, for the remainder of the week, strange and gloomy thoughts would randomly enter his head. He experienced moments of extreme misery. This continued for weeks, and finally he began to isolate himself from the outside world as a result of these strange emotions. He began to turn down any invites to visit his family and began to avoid answering calls.

It seemed like he was stuck in a rut and unable to feel happy, despite his family's best efforts to get him out of the house out of concern for him. He completely cut himself off from the outer world and spent months living alone. He consumed more alcohol than normal and became a wretched, pathetic, uncaring person. After his business failed, he finally gave up on it.

In our lives, most of us have experienced intense unpleasant emotions. All of us have experienced hopelessness and may have even experienced depression. It is challenging for us to always be happy in the world because there are a lot of things that might negatively or positively affect our happiness.

Whatever the cause, have you ever considered the possibility that these negative impacts could originate from another dimension or from an outside force?

In the story, John's pessimism was not brought on by everyday events; rather, it was an unseen power that made contact with him in this house and gave him this feeling.
