The Companions used to run and compete. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) gave them permission to do so. It has been narrated that Hazrat Ali (ra) was a very fast person in running.
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) himself used to run with his Muhtarima Begum Hazrat Ayesha (ra) for the purpose of satisfying her and for the purpose of educating the Companions (ra). Hazrat Ayesha (RA) herself said: The Prophet (SAW) ran and competed with me. Then I went out earlier. Later, when my body became heavy, he ran with me and lost to me and said: This time I took revenge for the service.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) fought with a famous wrestler named Rukana. He threw her more than once.
In another narration it has been said: The one whom the Prophet (peace be upon him) brought down was very strong. He dusted her three times in a row. On the basis of all these hadiths, the jurists have given the opinion that it is completely permissible to compete in running, men can run in this race together. Men and Muharram girls can compete jointly or husband and wife can compete together. Competing and wrestling in running is not the opposite of dignity, seriousness, knowledge, glory and old age. Because when the Holy Prophet (SAW) ran and competed with Hazrat Ayesha (RA), he was in his fifties.
