The association of Crystals and Astrology dates from around 6000 years back or to an extent we can say since the time the Big Bang happened...
The Sumerians who were into marking the metaphysical attributes of each star sign could find the correlation between the crystals and the star signs. They began with the association at a broader level like Birth of Children or Crop harvesting or victory over enemies and such things but gradually their studies went deep and they could bring the association in Individual lives. The Big Bang theory says that we are all interconnected, everything in the universe is energetically connected, vibrating at a certain level and frequency and complimenting based on their geometric structures, which does not only limit us to we humans but everything in nature.
The vibrational resonance can be altered by energies. The higher frequencies have the ability to alter other frequencies when they occupy their space. Hence the Crystals when brought into our space give the resonance of its vibration and help in healing and altering our energies. Which does not mean that Crystals will by itself take away all the problems and troubles in your life. They are all aids to altering your energy levels, which prompts the change of the circumstances of our lives. The higher frequencies we vibrate at, the better is our quality of life and vice versa.
The meteorites that came down from the universe all rich in minerals formed the base to the crystals on earth. For e.g. Diamond is a result of millions of pounds and years of pressure on coal.
The Indians, Greeks, Chinese, Romans, Egyptians everyone had their own theories around the association but the conclusion everyone had was the coherent resonance of the Crystals would help restore stability and balance the body energy systems.
The linkage between the Crystals and the planets was associated with their colors and the attributes of the planets. Each astrology sign is connected with at least one Crystal. They can be either worn as Jewelry, or can be kept at home or workplace or the best place is to keep your luck charms at the Altar.

There are general Zodiac Crystals and then there are specific ones based on the birth chart. The one important thing to understand is that no one Crystal will serve us for life, they keep changing based on the movements of the planets and the placement of them in our birth chart. Over the years I have learned from many spiritual gurus on this subject and I come to an understanding that everything is not part of destiny, there is a lot of free will also and life is a mix of it. The consequences of free will then becomes the Karma which we cannot run away from
