WEF panel discusses the coming tokenized economy

You can watch this WEF23 video here. Many eventually make their way onto the WEF YT channel.

The event, titled “Tokenized Economies, Coming Alive,” featured Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire, Bitkub Capital CEO Jirayut “Topp” Srupsrisopa, Finnish Minister of Transport and Communications Timo Harraka, and Yield Guild Games co-founder Beryl Li.

One questioner at the event asked what the participants thought was the most exciting thing they expect to be tokenized next. Allaire responded by saying that he thought many brands desired to turn their proprietary loyalty points systems into blockchain applications, taking them from a “closed-loop system” to an “open-loop system” that could be interoperable with systems used by other brands.

I've thought of that too, but appropriate legislation is needed regarding the financial value of each token. Currently, loyalty programmes and shopping vouchers explicitly state that any "discounts" do not give such tokens any monetary value. This is not true in reality, but such voucher-trading is kept quiet.

Token regulations are difficult to understand and differences between utility and security tokens seem arbitrary when applied to crypto projects. I tried to look into this at one point for a project I was considering but got discouraged. I'm not sure what the outcome will be but it seems like we are going to have to have some system wide changes to keep things operating smoothly and encourage new economic growth and technological improvements.

Depends on the size of your project, whether it is worth going the legal route within a jurisdiction that at least already has laws to sandbox crypto projects.
