Tuvalu is a sprinkling of small islands in Polynesia. On the internet, it became famous for being designated the country code top level domain dot-TV. But the highest point on the islands is just 4.6 metres above sea-level. Those riches won't save the country from possibly being submerged one day.
So... Tuvalu Aiming to Become First Country To Replicate Itself in Metaverse
According to a report by Reuters, Tuvalu has announced that it will digitally replicate its islands and landmarks in order to preserve the nation’s history and culture. Tuvalu’s Foreign Minister Simon Kofe made the announcement at the COP27 climate summit, arguing that it was time to begin looking at alternative solutions for the country’s survival in the face of rising sea levels.
"Our land, our ocean, our culture are the most precious assets of our people and to keep them safe from harm, no matter what happens in the physical world, we will move them to the cloud," he said in the video that sees him standing on a digital replica of an islet threatened by rising sea levels.
Apart from the never-ending climate scam, it will be an interesting legal issue if a land without land can exist.
For some reason, this reminded me of a novel, I think by Iain M. Banks, but can't remember which one, where a nation was created by mooring boats together into one contiguous land.
These floating cities will be wiped out in one Hurricane or Typhoon…it’s like these people have never lived through a storm.
yeah they do get cyclones.
start building on stilts - like they do in places here.
A house built on stilts in the ocean will not survive a cyclone.
I think they evacuate these places during a Hurricane.
