The difference is that dYdX is decentralised - no, honestly!
Recent interview and is also a broad overview of the history and the DEX nature of dYdX.
Not many comments as yet, but one caught my eye:
"When AWS went down 2 weeks ago, dydx was also down. How is this called DEX?"
This is precisely my bug about the abuse of the D-word. Precisely what is decentralised? Because it obviously isn't everything! There are many levels to a network, and each level has some dependencies. Each of those dependencies may well be an aspect that is not under control. So decentralisation is not identical to independence.
This isn't a criticism aimed specifically at dYdX - I like dYdX - but the whole issue can be clarified by talking about which dependencies are being mitigated, rather than which aspects are decentralised.
Listening to Antonio Juliano, he understands this, so I wish those in a position to implement such systems would help by changing the focus of the discussion away from empty flag-waving.
Really nice interview!
