Bhutan mines Bitcoin with hydropower since BTC price was $5,000

The Kingdom of Bhutan uses Himalayan rivers to generate energy used to mine Bitcoin, local reports reveal.

Known for its focus on "Gross National Happiness" and picturesque landscapes, Bhutan has found ways to harness its immense hydroelectric potential, which accounts for 30% of its GDP.

The scale of Bhutan's mining operations remains a mystery, with little information available about the location, size, and profitability of its mining farms. Some employees of Druk Holding & Investments (DHI) have listed “crypto mining” as their tasks and skills on their LinkedIn profiles.

It is also unclear why the government chose not to disclose this project to its citizens or international partners. However, it is known that the state-owned holding company, DHI, has invested millions of dollars in cryptocurrency holdings, with the funds managed on behalf of its people.

Part of their Happiness Index is ignorance and lack of freedoms - see their vax program - and looks like something designed by UNESCO to enforce compliance with social norms.

The rate of health service access (a key indicator under the health domain) for those who suffered illness or injury increased from 72% in 2017 to 91% in 2022.

How did that happen, I wonder?

Many of the principles underlying the Gross National Happiness Index are founded in the tenets of Vajrayana Buddhism (the state religion of Bhutan), and there is still room for debate on the included domains...

Vajrayana certainly does not include blind obedience.

Anyway, back to crypto.

Bhutan's Regulatory Sandbox Framework.

Bhutan’s Investment Arm Invested Millions in Crypto, According to Celsius Documents

The Celsius documents show that DHI made deposits and withdrawals worth millions in various digital assets from bitcoin to ether to USDC. Two Druk entities are mentioned in the Celsius documents — DHI and the Druk Holding and Investments Druk Project Fund. However, the purpose of the project fund is not clear on DHI’s website.

And so, enlightenment as a form of perceptual clarity does not seem to extend to financial clarity. Amusing.

by what? lol.
Long story, but had an idea to move there 4 or 5 years ago. Scratching below the surface, might have been interesting, but perhaps not idyllic - Nepal is nearby with same climate and same culture, and more chaos!
Bhutan's secrecy was kinda broken as it appears to have lost money in FTX.
