Yeah a downvote like YouTube is ok that doesn’t remove value and acknowledges that even negative attention boosts activity on the platform but also just a format of more in the moment content. I rly rly rly strongly feel this long medium format of articles written by people just desperate to not have to get a job isn’t working to retain users. I’m rly not saying that to be mean it’s just an observation many ppl have reasons to stay home etc but it is a limited amount. Of ppl who have the time of desire to read or write that kind of thing. I think most ppl don’t even read most of it and make a general comment to make it look like they have. This isn’t good for retention I rly think it needs to be more like monetised fb or twitter. Some longer bits and then short or just a picture etc way more chatty
Reddit is a much better template to go for IMHO but first thing is to broker BLURT as replacement for email...

I mean huge long text and images isn’t rly blogging as such, not in 2023 anyways it is out dated blogging rly. Most people now who might even be full time career bloggers make video format or short content posts rly you rarely see professional bloggers in this day and age writing huge long blogs with pictures, sure there are a few hanging around on the internet but they are not the most popular I don’t think. Medium is a similar format to what these Platforms seem to push for but normally they tend to be rly focused content on longer form. But the majority of blogging these days isn’t rly long form it’s not rly popular anymore outside of video. I think there is a niche audience for it but platforms tryint to push it as the only format I think is part of the issue why they never grow.
I don't like videos, as largely a waste of my attention and time - can read 5x faster, so appreciate those auto-transcripts on some video platforms.
But yeah, the evolution was the magazine format that then turned into sites like Hubpages, and others - some very profitable, but some only paid by adverts, so the topics were massively boring to target the CPC eg pharma, loans, finance, more loans.. yaaawn...
there were also professional blog networks - I only ever really looked at the science ones - those were also profitable for a while, and if the author didn't care, was still a public voice.
How LBRY evolved is indicative of the shift from text to video, as you say.
For me, unless an interesting interview, or short documentary, I don'[t follow any vloggers - most in crypto are boring shills or clickbait crap - or both! lol
I was a fashion photographer and holding onto long format blogs imo is like me trying to hold onto film cameras and printed magazines. Sure there are some niche areas it can work if you love it that much but it is limiting
That's true - photography and 2D art should be accepted as the final creative product - adding a paragraph just to get "text count" is pointless - unless genuinely adds to the image and at the artist's discretion.
I am not saying every single person does but the majority of younger people which, like it or not is the future are more into video or podcast format or shorter statements like fb twitter etc to enter into debate. It’s just not that popular for long form essay blog posts with images unless it’s a really deep research paper or a recipe etc or a how to make candles. Most people now if they want to go travel somwhere will go on YouTube and check out several videos of what the place looks like maybe a few slicker ones and then some walk around raw and real ones. Most ppl will not seek out travel blogs that are rly long form content. It’s just not where the world is going. Now an essay on science, medicine or theology or something is probably still attractive to those interested. I mean my parents are mid 70 s and highly educated and even they use YouTube for many things now because it’s just where the world is going. I think pretty soon if ppl

I changed myself as I realised all this long text and photographs stuff has no platform outside of these blockchain blogs. It is somewhat old fashioned so I’m forcing myself to get better with video and shorts etc and i actually find it quite enjoyable to learn.
Then imagine if all comments were in video!
I think sometimes we have to put our own preferences aside to let a platform grow personally I hate shorts when it comes to information I work from home and love long rambly videos that I can just have on in the background and tune in and out of to a point especially on spirituality etc. I do realise tho that doesn’t mean everyone’s likes that and these days more ppl like shorts. My bf is quite a bit younger than me and unless it’s a topic he is rly into mostly masculinity or numerology lol then just tunes out of the point isn’t made in the first 2 seconds it’s actually craxy to watch but this is how it’s probably going, at least till the next thing becomes popular. All the other forms will still have some kind of community but the platforms imo should allow for all. This is even more true when ppl go out to work and have families etc they just wAnt to scroll a few click bait shorts to wind down or learn a few quick facts. Rly think these blogs need to learn to cater for more tastes than old fashioned long format written in fo. The first one that does will have an edge. It doesn’t mean we all have to follow them if there are options you just pick pages that you like the format of but I don’t think discouraging shorter posts or podcasts or video etc will help anyone grow
