For those who don't know what this refers to, in the 50s in the early days of the fear of the Bomb, they would drill kids to hide under their desks for imaginary nuke bomb drills.
Of course, this would do absolutely nothing. A basement, at minimum, and gas masks for everyone when they go back to the surface.
I grew up in the 80s and fear of the Bomb was huge at the time, but after 30 years and still nothing since Hiroshima they didn't drill us this way. Fear of AIDS was the bigger one. For a while a lot of people believed that the disease could be transmitted through oral fluids (it is only transmissible sexually and blood to blood).
I wouldn't say that the current generation of children as young as this now being forced to wear masks and probably a lot of them being browbeaten if they disobey, is unique for anyone of any age for this last 80 years of history. But that doesn't change the fact this is pure and simple fearmongering, and is clearly designed to divide people and set them against each other.
I hope that the people who I commented a small rant about the non-scientific nonsense of mask wearing on their posts about how they believe it is for our safety, will weigh in here. No downvotes, remember? I'm not gonna troll you, but if you make really illogical arguments I will point it out.
One of the most interesting things about superstition is that we aren't unique in this behaviour as a species. Doctor Skinner, who experimented with conditioning on pigeons in the so-called 'Skinner Box' (which is an important thing to understand, as what he discovered is used today by social network sites and websites and games and marketing) was that when there was no logic to the trigger that would allow the machine to deliver the little dose of seed for the bird to eat, they would start doing strange dances over and over again. Like humans throwing a pinch of salt over the shoulder or tapping on a piece of wood while talking about a past unlucky experience.
Fear of the unknown makes us dangerous to ourselves and to each other. Most people never had a reason to learn about the real science about contagious diseases and the use of masks and gloves. Some of us have, though we are not doctors or nurses - such as me, I did a course to learn how to do body piercing safely, a requirement where I was living at the time to get a job in a piercing or tattoo studio, and my mother was a nurse, so I knew what these things are for and how they are used and what most people seem to believe about the mask and the virus are complete nonsense, but they are trusting television celebrities for their information, and not reading books or taking courses.
As such, watching all this, I am now extremely wary of ever having anything to do with the doctors, nurses and institutions full of people who should know better, who are obviously being induced to play along. Sadly, the whole industry has been selectively breeding obedient servants of drug and biotech companies, and nothing has really changed much since snake oil salesmen became drug company owners.
