Unshackled minds - The death of comedy (in the West)

Jimmy Carr's fault the liberals say.

The oh so easily offended or as I like to call them "those without a sense of humour/humor want to shut up comedians now.
It is not enough to rip down historical statues and be offended by anything & everything.

Comedy is now on the hit-list, seriously, make a joke and 10 years later the lunatics that do not know how to laugh will find it and close you down.
Jimmy Carr in the UK is known for shock comedy, stretching boundaries and all with a very dry sense of humour as we call it in the UK.
He made a joke about the holocaust and extermination of gypsies last week and this offended 1, yes 1 member of the audience.
So in response the UK government want to push through a new bill, act, alleged law to put people in prison for???? Offending people.
Yes that is correct, if you are offended you can press charges. This is subjective is it not, being offended?
Not according to the UK government, perception is key, not actual or factual harm, mere perception.
I am offended by people being easily offended.

As always Caitlin is spot on.

The bill, act or alleged new law is an extension of 1 that was introduced back in 2001 in the UK, this simply stretches to streaming services. I covered that law before, to put it in layman's terms, can we still say lay-man? If you feel offended by someone for any reason (speech) you can call the police to deal with them.
This was the start of hate crime logic, political correctness via decree/act's/alleged law.

I fully expect the next move to be thought crimes, pre-emptive, like a mind reader, police will be given the power to act in advance to "stop a crime before it happens".....

There are massive reasons, huge reasons why the perception of being offended is a dangerous idea/notion when it comes to comedy as comedy is supposed to stretch the boundaries of taste/opinion/ideas.

Who gets to decide if a joke is funny or not, who gets to be the judge? The state? Do we get to have a panel of joke experts? I just can not see how this is not just another way to remove any semblance of fun from society by a always offended minority of cry babies.

Alex Bellfield said it well last night in a video but of course yt removed it. Not allowed to speak the truth on #Youcannottube, he needs to move to #rumble IMO.

I dare say I have already offended someone on here by even writing about this, we do after all live in the age of the easily offended.

I grew up with the expression "sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me".

Some people need to try and live by that.
If I do not like something I do not read it, if I do not find a comedian funny I simply do not watch them. It is easy not to take everything offensively, it takes more effort to be offended and takes a lot more time to complain about it, but we seem to have oh so many that seemingly have the time to be offended about "everything" of late.

https://www.spiked-online.com/2022/02/06/of-course-jimmy-carr-was-joking/

"The problems become immediately apparent. Offering some groups enhanced legal protection and outlawing psychological distress introduces subjectivity into legislation. It’s not what’s said that breaks the law, so much as how the message is received and by whom. The risk, exacerbated in our age of identity politics, is that taking offence becomes incentivised and weaponised, with the law turned into a political football."

If we take away the laughter, all we will have left is the ability to make fun of ourselves, but then again I dare say a law would be thought up to stop us doing that!

Have a superb sunny day and have some fun, while it is still legal.

They have literal armies of of morons signalling their virtues by trawling through peoples back catalogues, trying to find remarks or jokes that destroy their character or reputation. If it was me, I'd tell them where to go - unfortunately, the majority seem to bow down to it.

The death of free speech by a million cuts - is about creating a hive mind of accepted opinion, that's backed by an ever encroaching raft of legislation. Of course they need a faux consensus of moral outrage to achieve it - hence when stories like this make the headlines.

I have to say watching from afar it is easy for me to judge as we have not a jot of this lunacy here. It does make the UK look like a laughing stock though, sadly.

The eye is currently heavily focused upon the destruction of the west - whilst the UK is certainly an aspect of that focus - it's not (as noted by the recent Dave Chappelle debacle) an isolated enclave. People over here have had their arses wiped for them for too long, in places like Poland they've seen first hand where this kind of bullshit leads, and are a bit more difficult to fool.

Equally, in terms of the (currently invisible) interconnected global governance structures they're creating - they are intended to be as ubiquitous as Visa. Thus, in the future it is going to be increasingly difficult for businesses etc etc to operate (obtain finance/insurance etc etc) outside of them. Which is why we need people like yourself - speaking out and putting their money where their mouth is - even if it's not affecting them in the current moment. Respect to you. :)

The Polish lived communism up until the 80's so yes, it is fresh in their minds still and nobody wants it back any time soon.

Cheers, it feels like a moral obligation, turning a blind eye is not an option, even though it does not directly have any impact on me. Cheers brother.

Respect where it's due. :)

Seems it is just as insane in Canada.

Hatespeech can only be labeled so by people that hate (free) speech . ;-)

That would be the confused liberal left, nothing liberal about fascism is there! Those that shout the loudest win it seems, in politics.

This make me think about the lack of comedy movies in the last years. I watched a lot of movies in my life and I would like to say that recently there are a lot of horror movies and other kind of aggressive movies and there are even many aggressive comedies. But I am not able to find good comedies like I was finding before. And even my favorite comedy actors aren't filming anything good at all. So, I think it's all done on purpose. Fewer comedies are created to make people even more depressed ! That's crazy, but that could be true !

By the way, good article you wrote earlier.

You only have to look at cable channels like HBO, Canal plus, netflix etc to see how dark and humourless most of their "new" productions are, no matter if it be a movie or series and hollywierd has been making depressing movies for decades now.
Yes it is all by design, fun draining, life sapping depressing drivel.

Some great comedy that is sure to trigger many.
