During our visit with parents to Colombo, we also stopped by Gangarama Temple. As well as our parents' this was also our first visit to Gangaramaya Temple. We parked roadside where it had pretty enough space.
Even though we had heard about Gangaramaya Temple on TV, we were a bit confused about what is this temple about. From the entrance to many interiors, there were East Asian Buddhist-styled artifacts which were fascinating.
Other than the usual Buddhist worship places we see, there is a museum consisting of thousands of artistic and Buddhist souvenirs.
Everything inside the temple was iconic and we wondered why we were this late to be here. The artifacts were carefully maintained and they have allowed full freedom to walk through these antiques with no restrictions.
There were several things that I didn't realize the meaning like the thousands of identical god statues you see in the above picture.
As same as giant Buddhist statues there were Hindu Sculptures as well. It was a different experience with a huge variation of memorials and souvenirs.
There was a separate room for Jade Buddha's statues which was so elegant in bare eyes than you see in photos.
As we caught into the rain there we had enough time to cover this amazing collection of antiques. And I wish if we were knowledgeable about what we are witnessing.
