Sometimes waiting for a chance to wear your nice items can take an age. But I would then question why bother buying and keeping such lovely items you clearly desire to wear for so long.
It's okay to hold back but sometimes it's better to buy things impromptu. If you have an event such a wedding or other special occasion to attend, then its understandable.
But I feel its best to wear your best now and then, even if it means not having anything special on hand for events. Those can be dealt with in the future.
