Hansel & Gretel are classic heroes of my childhood. In the days before the internet and computer games, most of my childhood was spent reading books or playing street games. When I saw the movie of the classic heroes I was familiar with, I was reluctant to watch it because of the possibility of similarities with the story, but I couldn't resist and watched it.
Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters movie sticks to the classic story in terms of heroes. The siblings Hansel and Gretel, who are not wanted by their stepmother, are abandoned by their father in the woods. They take shelter in a house made of candy and are imprisoned by the witch of the house. After the siblings get rid of the witch, the movie turns into its own independent story.
The scenes that stick to the classic story are shown in a quick transition as a reminder. I think it is appropriate that the classic story is reminded and passed quickly because I think it would have been quite boring if it was prolonged. This is exactly where the movie departs from the classic story and creates its own story. In doing so, it uses only the existence of the brothers Hansel and Gretel from the classic story.
Now grown up and witch hunters, they are professionally tasked with hunting witches for money in a witch-infested town. I liked the way they departed from the classical story and created their own story. I was satisfied as a viewer because it was the opposite of what I expected.
I can say that the movie satisfies action fans more than enough through the Hansel and Gretel brothers. Every scene is filled with spectacular examples of close and far fighting. Although the story takes place in a primitive time, the weapons used are highly technological and look dangerous from each other. The killing scenes are too gory but I liked it. At least not to the point of disgusting.
Jeremy Renner plays Hansel, one of the brothers. I liked the way the character, who seems more cautious and patient despite being younger, uses humor. His successful performance in the action scenes also added value to the film and had details that stood out as indispensable to the story.
Gemma Arterton, who plays the character of Gretel, was magnificent in her performance in the action scenes. I can say that she was a real pleasure to watch and mesmerized with her lovable beauty. Her only shortcoming was that she was vulnerable to all kinds of dangers due to her vulnerable sense of trust and her weak personality.
Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters was quite successful with its action, adventure and especially the way it deviated from the classic story. I didn't think it would be this good when I started watching it. I had a perception that it wouldn't go beyond a classic children's story, but as a result, it broke my perception.
The performance of the characters was also successful. I really liked the action sequence, the scenes in the woods were the best moments of the movie. What I didn't like about the movie was that the fear created through witches was neutralized with some unnecessary humor scenes. I found the humor scenes successful only in a few scenes of Hansel's character, the best of which was the dialogue when the character was hanging from a tree.
Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters is a movie I highly recommend watching. If you are someone like me who is prejudiced against the movie because of the classic story, I can say that your prejudice is in vain. The only criticism I can make is that the horror aspect of the movie was pacified. The presence of witches and the killing methods used were not suitable for the added humor.
