A while ago, I stopped watching movies with creatures in them. The most important reasons for this are; creatures are always superior up to a certain point, but always lose their superiority as a result. The other reason is that at the end of almost all creature movies, the door is left open for the next sequel.
I quit because it was getting pretty annoying to watch movies that were identical in the beginning, development, and end result. Today, I watched a creature movie, although I thought it would have the beginning, the development, and the conclusion that I mentioned in a way that I can't understand. The movie, which is called The Water Monster, is exhibited a little differently than the Chinese-made and other creature movies.
In many creature movies, creatures or creatures are shown to the audience with instant and fast movements in places where the image is not clear due to fog, darkness or any other factor. In some of the final scenes, the situation changes and the creature becomes clear. But the creature can always be seen clearly in the movie Water Monster. I think of it as a small but important detail that distinguishes it from other creature movies.
The film Water Monster takes place in a village by a lake and the life of the villagers. Father and son go fishing together and the first contact with the creature takes place here. The oldest person in the village sees the creature as a divine power and god. With his guidance, the lord of the village is affected and they sacrifice a girl from the village to the creature. The creature, which did not appear again for 10 years, must be bored with the sacrificed girl and reappear. Since the movie has the feature of containing comedy, it does not contain the tension as in other creature movies. And the creature, as the name suggests, lives in water.
Some villagers call the creature water monkey, water ghost and water monster. There are those who see him as a divine god. The creature masterfully displays the martial arts of the Far East, probably due to the location of the film. He can do kungfu with the villagers trying to hunt him, throw flying kicks and trip his victims. He just eats the heads of the people he kills in a way that I can't understand, leaving the rest! Since the head will not work in the body, the victim is completely dead.
He gets rid of the traps prepared for him with extremely skillful and agile movements. From this, we understand that it is a very intelligent creature. He is eventually captured by being locked in an iron cage. And those who catch him are declared heroes of the village. Just when it was easy and it was over quickly, the creature unknowingly escapes from the cage. This part needs some explanation because I still think about how he got out of that cage.
It is not a boring movie in terms of duration, it already has a total duration of close to 80 minutes. The movie is not boring in terms of flow. Is there any exaggeration in the movie? There are so many exaggerations that I don't know what to say. If I were to make a ranking, I would have no difficulty in listing the 10 most overrated scenes. But I don't want to spoil your enjoyment of watching the movie. It's just good to know that. Put aside the creature movies you've seen so far, because this one is so different from them. Do not infer from this that the film is very good or very bad. I'm just saying it's very different from other creature movies.
The release date of the movie is July 2019. It is said to have a budget of 2 million dollars. Source. When I learned the budget information, I wondered where and to whom the money was paid. Frankly, I found the budget exaggerated in the movie, which was shot with a handful of people and a single creature.
The movie is fun, watchable, has plenty of exaggerated scenes and is satisfying in terms of duration. But in general, the watcher does not gain anything. If you don't watch, you won't lose anything. It's up to me to say, the decision to watch is yours! Good viewing for those who will watch, and plenty of options in world cinema for those who will not.
