Leave the World Behind

I imagined scenarios in my head where an ordinary story could turn into a cyber-attack, a world war or an attempted coup d'état against the government after the misuse of technology. Of course, what makes me think of these things is the chain of events, or should I say the chain of events that could happen, which even I will admit to myself is outrageous.

You may think that I am telling the story in a complicated way or not, and you can be sure that I will agree with you. I'm still thinking about the whole story that I watched and I don't have a clear idea of what happened and what might not have happened. Or rather, I have no idea what happened!

Something is definitely happening, but it's not clear what it is! Let me explain what I'm talking about and not to add more mystery to this review of a movie that already has enough mystery. I'm talking about the movie Leave the World Behind, which was made in 2023.

Going back to the beginning, I would like to emphasize that I watched the movie for Julia Roberts. Despite her advancing age, she is still beautiful and still manages to stay in the center of my attention. I won't go into the reasons for this, I just want it to be known that I watched the movie for her.

The movie in the thriller genre is really tense in terms of not being able to develop the story and tie it to a point. Obviously, we are at the first stop of a new sequel and they wanted to present the story with a wide range...

...but I think every movie should have its own ending, even if it's going to be a sequel one way or another. Every sequel I've seen so far has been tied to certain points in its own story and has an ending.

The material is good, the shots are good, the story is good, but it doesn't have the desired flavor because of the disconnections at the connection points. And it gives the impression that the movie will never end, that it will go on forever. In fact, there is no ending and the story disappears as if there was a blackout.

Julia Roberts, who plays Amanda, starts off as a responsible parent and a mother who prioritizes her two children and questions everything. In the later moments of the story, she switches to the view of being bogged down by personal conflicts rather than her responsibilities. It can be thought of as the lower personality struggling with the upper personality, but I find it strange that she chooses to be distrustful of third parties for this.

Ethan Hawke, who plays Clay, gives a better acting performance. Even though I opened the movie for Julia, Ethan instantly became my favorite. He maintains his trustworthy personality throughout the movie and maintains a balance in his ups and downs.

I can recommend you to watch Leave the World Behind, but I don't think you should rush to watch it. With its unfinished story, you might be the one who leaves the dinner before you are full. Wait for the sequel to be released and then watch it one after the other in a way that integrates the story. In spite of everything, I wish a good time to those who will watch it.
