Hello everyone!
Rapids Network is delighted to announce its latest partnership, after the Exchanges, Merchandising sites, Burnley FC (UK Premier League team), now it is with a Film Festival.
Which is none other than the Carmarthen Bay Film Festival (CBFF), located in Wales, in Carmarthenshire, and more precisely the city of Llanelli. For those who are not familiar with it, here are a few little facts:
- Founded by Kelvin Guy in 2011 (the first edition took place in April 2012 at Stardey Park Hotel - Llanelli)
- Recognized as a qualifying festival in 2014 by the BAFTA Cymru/Wales & IMDb
- The 2021 edition marks the 10th anniversary of the CBFF
There is a very exciting little story around this festival. First of all, why in Llanelli?
It all started in 2005, when Kelvin Guy began researching the story of Gareth Hughes, a Welshman from Llanelli who became Wales' first ever Hollywood silent film star.
It is also worth mentioning that Kelvin Guy is the grandson of Gareth Hughes' Cousin
This documentary is entitled "In Search of Gareth Hughes" won many awards in the United Kingdom and around the world.
In 2011, Kelvin Guy founded the Carmarthen Bay Film Festival (of which he is currently the CEO) in Gareth Hughes' hometown, to honor him.
The goal of this festival is to give filmmakers, but especially grassroots filmmakers, the opportunity to show their work on the big screen. And thus allow fans of theaters to enjoy independent films.
With for the first year (2012 edition) 35 Film applications, to arrive at over 1100 film applications from 74 countries for the 2021 edition.
Today the Carmarthen Bay Film Festival is the premier film festival in Wales. Their motto is "Excellence should be seen on screen" and they are one of the great champions of independent film. The CBFF showcases the best of Welsh and international talent. Their aim is to support independent film and filmmaking in Wales, UK and abroad.
Filmmakers who participate in the CBFF often appear in the 'Top 100 Film Freeway Festival' out of over 9,000 film festivals and creative competitions worldwide.
To explain BAFTA Cymru, BAFTA is the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, founded in 1947 and headquartered in London.
BAFTA is located all over the world, in the United Kingdom, the United States and Asia:
- BAFTA Los Angeles
- BAFTA New York
- BAFTA Scotland
- BAFTA Cymru (Cymru means 'Wales' in Welsh)
- BAFTA in Asia.
It is quite unique to receive an award if you win a Category. The winner brings a little bit of Wales with them.
The Carmarthen Bay Film Festival 2021 will take place on 17-20 May 2021 on Internet (instead of Ffwrnes Theatre in Llanelli)
If you want to know more about the Festival, the winners of 2020, and much more, I invite you to visit the official website of the Carmarthen Bay Film Festival.
