Esta tarde de domingo disfrute de este buen filme, EL EXORCISTA DEL PAPA, estrenada el 14 de abril de este año, producida por Screen Gems y distribuida por Sony Pictures, cuenta con la dirección de Julius Avery (Samaritan 2022 y Overlord 2018). El filme comienza en Tropea, Italia en junio de 1987, el padre Gabriele Amorth (Russell Crowe), llega abordo de su moto vespa para realizar un exorcismo poco convencional con la ayuda de un cerdo.

El exorcista del Papa, película del genero del Terror y Suspenso, debo admitir que las primeras escenas y en general la película no me causo mucho miedo o terror, como otros filmes del genero que toman el tema del exorcismo de algún demonio de la mano de un padre catolico, es imposible no referenciarnos con el filme de culto El Exorcista, esta película no trata de copiarla y aunque utiliza como no algunos elementos del genero, «la cabeza giratoria», «las maldiciones del demonio», una buena banda sonora, me encontré con un filme divertido, si buscar serlo, con mucho misterio e intriga.

En este filme la posesión demoniaca de la victima, el niño Henry (Peter DeSouza-Feighoney) es solo el cebo que usa el demonio de turno para atraer a la Abadia, ( un antiguo templo en España usado durante el oscurantismo de la inquisición Cristiana), al Padre Gabriele Amorth, buena interpretación de Russell Crowe entre divertido, bonachon, y de muy fuertes convicciones, pero no estara solo en la tarea, recibira la asistencia del joven padre español e inexperto en estas lides, el Padre Esquivel (Daniel Zovatto), cuando entramos en la parte media del filme ya la posesión del niño pasa a un segundo plano cuando se revela lo que realmente esta buscando el demonio.

Buena película, buen reparto, ademas de Crowe, vemos a el mitico actor italiano Franco Nero como el Papa, una trama no muy complicada pero funciona, te mantiene atento, buenos efectos especiales, buena banda sonora, creo que Sony esta apostando tal vez a una franquicia a la película no le ha ido para nada mal en taquilla, con un presupuesto de 18 millones de dolares ya ha triplicado en ganancias, lo mas interesantes es que la película esta basada en hechos reales, cuenta la historia del padre Gabriele Amorth, el exorcista en jefe del vaticano del año 1986 hasta su muerte en el año 2016,el guíon es de Michael Petroni, pero basado en par de libros del padre Amorth, Un exorcista cuenta su historia y Un Exorcista: Mas historias. El final de la película es mas de acción y debo decir que no me molestaría ver de regreso a Amorth y Esquivel luchando contra mas demonios, dire que la película no da mucho miedo pero entretiene bastante.

The end of the film is more action and I must say that I would not mind seeing Amorth and Esquivel back fighting more demons, I will say that the film is not very scary but it is quite entertaining.
