As we continue to side 2 with A Christmas Carol we can enjoy the use of narration and a musical score to guide us through the story. What we can quickly discover, however, is that the story itself was simply not written, or scored, for 4 and a half minute chapters. Interestingly, shortly after this particular album was produced, there was a new technology that produced 16 rpm records that could hold an amazing 40 minutes of audio per side. The fidelity was not music quality, but it was perfect for the spoken word. This particular story would have worked wonderfully on a 16rpm record.
