Visiting the Christmas Markets in Ljubljana (SLO)

in christmas •  11 months ago

We are fast approaching the Christmas holidays and with them all families will gather to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year.

I have to say in all honesty, that I imagined seeing a lot more crafts than what was actually there.

I took the tour at the Ljubljana markets: a city that particularly impressed me, in fact I did a dedicated post a few months ago.

We left on time in the morning and arrived at our destination quite early, in fact a good portion of the little houses were still closed.

As you can see, the street was not crowded at all.

In the post a few months ago I told you about the 3 bridges, and they are the focal point of the city, in fact all the markets developed starting from the bridges as they went deeper into the downtown streets.

Very interesting, and active all year round, is the navigable river, Ljiublianica, which embraces the city; kind of what happens in Paris with the Seine.

Even if the morning didn't have bright sunshine, the backlit photo, I always find a way to take it!

But let's delve into the market, follow me!

To the delight of all children (and dentists...) the candy cane house could not be missed!!!

Photos of the little houses with the actual handcrafted products, thus made by hand and with the artists' hearts, are not there because, rightly, they do not want photographs taken.

I understand them: each hand-crafted object is unique and unrepeatable, and that is what makes the difference with a multitude of objects mass-produced by machines with absolute precision!

During the tour, I took the opportunity to take photos of the streets "dressed up" for the holidays, including the Christmas tree.

Very characteristic and noteworthy is the Nativity scene built entirely of straw, look at this masterpiece!

The shepherd and the sheep, representing the priest (shepherd) and the faithful (the sheep) going to the birth of the Redeemer.

The 3 Wise Men cannot be missing, representing all the world's populations

It was time to go back, overall it was a nice ride and this time I noticed some details that I had missed the previous time:
On all the retaining walls of the river, there are stylized sculptures of the dragon which is the symbol of Ljubljana:

Even during the return journey, a photo of the sunset could not be missing as a seal of the beautiful day!
